What a beautifully coloured bird.

Thanks, the Bullfinch is one of my favourite birds.

I FINALLY managed to make a half-decent image of a Black Butcherbird, Melloria quoyi, a noisy mangrove dweller at East Point, Darwin, this morning.

I just looked this bird up, it's said that it is also considered a songbird! :-D
That is a total 180 from being considered a predator! heheh
Just imagine, being in a tree just singing away, then all is well, then it kills its audience!
I have never heard of a bird that had those qualities, VERY interesting, and I'm glad that you finally got your bird, I know I'd be happy. :-)

Black Butcherbirds are not as beautifully melodious as their brethren, the Pied or Grey Butcherbirds, especially the Pied, which sounds like a distant, haunting quartet of flautists, but they make up for this by being very loud. You certainly know when they're around even if you can't always see them hidden in the dense mangrove foliage. But butcherbirds not only kill their audience (the hook on the end of their beaks is a giveaway), they have the endearing habit of impaling their victims on a sharp stick or jamming them in the fork of a branch for later consumption.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Nicely colour-matched subject and background!
