Look forward to seeing the pics Eddie.

I did think on about your filter issue, sadly I have no idea! I even had a quick google search of the product for any problems with it, but couldn’t see anything.

Eddie wrote in post #19560531 (external link)
Anyone ever had an issue where their ND filter makes the image blurry? In Iceland just now and discovered that my Firecrest 4 stop (1.2) ND does this. If I set up on a tripod and manually focus on a subject, when I then add the filter it’s blurry. I then can’t achieve focus with the filter attached. Filter is clean and the 10 stop, CPL and grad filters are all fine. Just the 4 stop. It’s the 100x100 glass ones I’m using and it was the Elia Locardi kit.

Was at an epic waterfall yesterday and realised afterwards that all my shots where I used the 4 stop were out of focus. After a bit of testing I realised it’s the filter itself. Luckily I was only 10 mins drive away and managed to go back and retake the shots without the filter but I’m now without a 4 stop and the 10 stop is too strong for waterfalls. Very frustrating.

I’ve emailed the company to see what they say but don’t hold out much hope as I bought it in 2021 (just hadn’t really used the 4 stop much since). I initially thought I had just missed focus on the few shots I had taken with it but it’s 100% the filter. Thought it might be greasy but I’ve cleaned it with lens cleaner and it’s still the same.

Going to head to New Mexico on oct 13 and catch the annular eclipse. When I shot the last eclipse i had borrowed some filters this time I bought some ND 100000 so I got them and when I look thru I can see light..... i am a bit worried any thoughts?

Also I decided against the 16-35 v2 My jeep died and i ended up with a huge massive huge omg its huge Ram Rebel that I cannot park in a parking stall.

Did you try test without IBIS too? I’ve never personally had that issue with my filters but I use Nisi and Haida so could it be that individual brand of filters?

Hi mate, yeah tried IBIS off and on and no different. I’m using the CPL, Grad and 10 stop from the same brand (same set actually) and all are fine, it’s just the 4 stop. Will see what the manufacturer say to my email.

Yeah couldn’t find any issues either, just my luck :-P When the set arrived initially the CPL wouldn’t rotate properly. I contacted them and they said they were aware of the issue and sent me a replacement adapter ring for it which cured it. Frustrating that this is now the second issue with the one filter kit

We got the Aurora the first night in Iceland and it was a 4 on the scale. Tomorrow shaping up to be a good one as long as we get a clear sky

Excuse the iPhone photo (Sony shots to follow when I’m home) but this is from the campsite in Reykjavík the first night. Even through the light pollution. Tomorrow night we are heading out to find some dark skies

No clue then sorry, if no issue with the 10 stop then does seem it may be that individual filter and hopefully they have some answers for you!

For anyone that uses carbon fiber tripods, is there something to wipe on the legs to clean, and help keep them in good shape? Thanks.
