I am not a Apple PC user...I have Windows 10, there are an estimated 1.4 Billion users of Windows...the reason why one needs to download and install Safari version 5.1.7, as newer versions for Windows are not available.

Makes sense now. I'd forgotten that Apple even made Safari for Windows.

I only just discovered this feature in Safari myself. I'd always used the print to pdf. Now I'm surprised that every browser doesn't have a good converter built in.

I've been using Cameraderie for a while and Talk Photography less so. I like Cameraderie. Cambridge in Colour was a decent forum a while ago but can't comment on nowadays - I've not used it for a long time.

It has forums?! I have long known about their great reference articles that clarify often-misunderstood concepts, and great tools like their DOF Calculator.

This is why I do think, we should keep this community together instead of spreading it over the internet in thousand different forums. This is the opportunity for all POTN members. I only offer a free platform. It is up to you to decide whether you want to use it or go somewhere else.

The problem is, there is no "we". There is us and there's you. We don't know who you are.
You say a "free platform"? Well, one of our people here has this in his sig: TANSTAAFL and he's right.

I am absolutely NOT MAD at Apple...I was merely pointing out to the person suggesting Safari as a means of exporting threads from POTN that Safari was originally conceived for the Apple universe, that was made available outside that universe for a period of time, but then discontinued outside the Apple universe about 7 years ago...so a solution not available to me to try: I tried to find Safari 5.1.7 today and cannot even find it! Statement of fact, no emotion, no horse in that race! I last used MacbookPro with Safari on a daily basis in about 2010; no beef, no sentiment, no horse in that race either.

I know you are having fun....but PC is an acrnym which stands for 'personal computer' and is not at all brand specifi, so an Apple PC is no different from a Texas Instruments PC (which ceased to exist 40 years ago) or Microsoft-compatible PC. Somehow 'PC' got distorted into meaning 'only DOS/Windows machines' in a lot of minds, but 'personal computer' is the true origin.

From Britannica: "The personal computer industry truly began in 1977, with the introduction of three preassembled mass-produced personal computers: the Apple Computer, Inc. (now Apple Inc.), Apple II, the Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80, and the Commodore Business Machines Personal Electronic Transactor (PET)."

1977 was 7 years before IBM introduced their version of PC....IBM was a relative late-comer with Microsoft DOS, so how 'PC' got distorted into meaning Microsoft-compatibles is a oddity!

Just a guess but probably because no one except the IBM universe ever referred to their product as a PC. When I bought my first Apple, the AppleII, back in 1978, even then it was just referred to the Apple. Also had an Altair, the Vic-20 and later the Commodore 64 and an Amiga. Never referred to any of them as a PC. It was always an Apple for a Vic, or a Amiga. When IBM released their first product, it was called the IBM-PC. Name sort of stuck.

BTW, you don't need to switch to export threads. MS/Edge exports threads to PDFs as does Chrome. Not sure about FF but i'm guessing that there is something there as well.

Kodak ended. The Beatles ended. Queen Elizabeth ended. Things really do end.

I'm trying cameraderie! It's new and strange there. :( POTN too when I started. It will be all right.

I’m warming up to https://cameraderie.org/forums/ (external link)

I changed the color to Medium Theme which I like better than dark forums.

It looks like a nice community. Friendly and most of all they have a better photo size option (not limited to 1024) plus EXIF information is included for your uploaded pictures. Pretty nice.

That is true. Same goes for every other forum out there in which you have not been yet a member for years. I do not know you neither. Maybe you are troll? Who knows? ;)

Oh great. I'm a troll now.

The thing is, you can look me up here. That would tell you I am not a troll.
You however, I cannot look up, now can I?

A member of one of my photo forums sent me today a PM with a link to the closing-announcement thread at POTN. I immediately contacted Pekka to rescue the forum. But I respect that he made his decision to delete it. . . .

I do think, we should keep this community together instead of spreading it over the internet in thousand different forums. This is the opportunity for all POTN members. I only offer a free platform. It is up to you to decide whether you want to use it or go somewhere else.

Like Anton and Levina, I'd need to know more. Various POTN members have explored possible landing sites and reported on what they found. Do these places show EXIF, what size photos can one post, how does moderation go, is page design easy to read, do members have galleries, and so on? You say you have photo forums. Why not give us links to at least one of them so individuals can decide whether you can offer what best meets their needs? We also should know what features the IT people among us might be able to add and whether the group can choose its admins and moderators.

The URL you gave is a dotcom. Do you own the hosting service? You call the platform free; who would pay the server charges? Would member contributions be required, accepted, or neither?

Please don't be offended at my and others' mistrust. All I know about you is that you're European (most likely northern or central, from your syntax) and well educated in English. Any guide for web users would tell me not to send you my personal data.

Thx, will give Edge a try, especially since it comes standard with Windows. Using Windows built-in print to PDF capability, the PDF has all the text within threads but no illustrations within posts. Since Windows is in common to both Chrome and Edge, it will be interesting to see if there is a difference in outcome.
