Yessir (would've worked even better, but the weather started going south)

2x + 2x + 100-400, giving me effective working range of 400-1600mm, but at the cost of f/18-f/22. Additionally, also at longer ranges, can really see the atmospheric distortions coming into play by the humidity in the air.

Was a fun experimentation and "poor man's" super-duper telephoto zoom. Incredibly, the AF still worked, more sluggish understandably, but worked.

For next time, I think I'll use the 2x + 1.4x + 100-400 combo. That will bring down the aperture by a stop, still provide me with 280-1140 mm effective range, and probably allow autofocus to work a hair better, hopefully.

After the storm that hit last weekend, had given up hope of catching the last of this years motorcycle racing, but thankfully the organisers put the programme back a further day and I was able to get a full days racing action. R3, with the latest firmware update, never missed a beat. More than happy with performance and the outcome even in extremely harsh low sunlight. Using the D+ enhanced does a decent job.

Wild Koala spotted high up in a gum tree in our local Toohey Forest today.

I was reading the User Guide recently and came across this topic. It is related to Highlight Tone Priority.


[Enable]: Improves gradation in highlights. The gradation between the grays and highlights becomes smoother.
[Enhanced]: Reduces overexposed highlights even more than [Enable], under some shooting conditions.
