Damn lol... that's just mailing it in at that point. Kinda embarrassing sharing that tbh.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I joined there, but so far have not posted, but reading what you tell of cameraderie and others I probably will not post anything there.

I've posted a dozen or so images and made comments on a few. So far no issues, but them I'm not nearly a good/experienced enough photographer to be critiquing others work.

So, Cameraderie has shot itself in the foot. Kevin, their administrator was so welcoming initially. I think he is an okay guy but his mods are the problem.

Levina's good news has encouraged me, so I have been busy Unweatching Cameraderie threads today :-)

it all took place in the private area. I called a member "lazy" for posting OOC images and barely stopping his car to take them.

they were amateurish images, and I felt it wasn't cool because everyone else puts in effort to present their work.

like I said, I called it lazy, but privately. apparently still a violation on their planet.i was told it probably isn't my place to be.

i have screenies of it all.

Interesting...

I'm not sure if I'm getting the whole picture. I still don't get the said it 'privately' part.

In any case I don't think it's worth banning. Unless there's been other things said, not related to this picture, that made them feel that the forum wasn't for you.

There are tons of pictures right here on potn, every where from street threads to GN, to portraits that I've thought "damn. Did you even look at this before posting" or thought they did rushed work on skin tones/corrections.

From time to time I've searched my own images from a long time ago. Removed some of them, wondering what the hell I was thinking when I posted such crappy work. Horrible editing, color grading etc. In five years , maybe less maybe more I'm sure I'll do the same for some of the pictures I post now. There have been a few times where I've been so excited about something ( whether they create the same excitement in the viewer.. who knows) that I'm eager to post, and have done so with remarks like "unedited but I'm super happy with this and wanted to share"

In such (mostly) laid back places like the two threads that I usually post (sony lounge and fuji thread) I feel comfortable doing so. Might get some likes, might not. Doenst matter, I know most , if not all the guys and gals there won't care all that much and recognize that the photo was just a casual post. Not meant to be judged or compared to the photos coming from the most talented members in those two threads. Or not even to be compared against my own best work.

So that's where you disappeared to. I used to see your work in Urban Life & Travel. You were among just a few finding the same kind of potential in city scenes.

I've posted a fairly high number of photos at Cameraderie, and received what I feel
is an unusually-high number of Likes and other recognitions. It feels false.

I was chastized for a comment, so I went to the private discussion to ask about it.
I mentioned in an 'abandoned' thread that a post looked like trash left at a curb,
and the moderators expounded on how I saw it all wrong and that there was far more
to the image, when it still looks like trash at a curb upon revisiting it.

Since my groveling praise to the moderator's chastisement of my deferrment to their power
and how they choose to be addressed, they've all 'Liked' my last response, which seems to have
unleashed the masses to 'Like' my posts since then, resulting in more than 60 'Likes'
since that last exchange.

There's so much of that place that feels false, as if it's only posting a photo
which garners any credulity. I almost feel as if I'm 'cheating' if I post a description
prior to a photo or two in a thread.

Let's wait to see if this honest reflection gets me banned over there.

Are you listening, Kevin?

well, I've been banned from Cameraderie. I had no idea that what I said would justify it, and I still don't. I feel like I was run over by two hall monitors. amazing.

Based upon a couple/few of dozen daily log-ins by me to that site over the past month, I was distressed at how little forum traffic there appears to be...only 3 threads had any content posted within one three month period on the topic of Canon cameras...and zero in the past month!
And, while there was some recent posts in the Photgraphy Chat (about 60 threads over 3 months) days could go by with no new posts of interest to me.
So I just removed their website from the bookmarks appearing in my homepage of my browser, and vanish from that forum without a wimper.
I find most value in sharing knowledge about equipment and techniques, and not about being a critic of photos posted; I do post a few photos, but it is a tiny percentage of my activity.

So consider the ban to be of zero consequence...it was not like a high value site to begin with.

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Good day people. I'm new here but I'm an old-timer over at Cameraderie.

There's a "write only" post box that you can use to send messages to mods but can't read anybody elses stuff.
I seriously agree that it's ridiculous to get banned after such a private message to the mods. Nobody's feelings were hurt, there should be some accommodation to newcomers.

I've been there for many years and they seriously don't want to improve themselves with constructive criticism. It is as if they all aspire to mediocrity. Garbage photos get the same number of likes as the good ones. All discussion is done with the reactions. The major poster guy was acting like an angry toddler over some proposed changes to forum structure, threatened to ragequit and to appease him they made him the head mod, this was 4-5 years ago.

You don't get new Charlie Parkers with "good enoughs" and thumbs-ups.

I joined this site to keep track on the development of POTN2. I might wanna join it the first chance I get.

^ Mike, thanks for the further insight into that other place. And when officially announced, please feel free to look around the "new place." Of course, it won't be called POTN2, and actually everyone should try to refrain from calling it that, but I know it is just a common reference to mention it that way for the time being.

Hello folks, we have happy news to share with all of you.

Our new forum, Focus on Photography, is ready for all of you to join and participate in!

As you know, we have been busy testing the site out and ensuring that it works well. We have also attempted to make it look familiar to POTN members so that the transition is as easy as possible. To assist with that, we have had an advance group of POTN'ers come over and test out the site for the last few days. Several excellent suggestions on how to improve the site were made and incorporated and we greatly thank them for their effort. The site is better off for their work!

So, without further ado, please come and join us. The URL for the new site is:

Please set up an account and start acquainting yourself with the new forum. You will find a lot of familiar faces and we are confident that you will love it. If you started threads on POTN, feel free to re-create them at Focus on Photography.
