Dragonfly at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. I think it might be an Australian Emerald.

I think here, we have an Australian Emerald Dragonfly (in-flight) and a Yellow-striped Flutterer Dragonfly (perched) taken at the Mt Cooth-tha Botanic Gardens in Brisbane.

Gosh that Yellow-striped Flutterer is a beautiful creature, and nice shot Dennis.
I was just thinking about how some of the coloration of some of them might have evolved, then though back to something I had read about how large some of them were from fossil records. Some had a wingspan of 28",(71cm). Oxygen levels were higher then which would support larger creatures at that time. Can you imagine sneaking up with your macro lens on one that size?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Keith, the diversity of insect life is indeed mind boggling and makes observing and photographing them so deeply rewarding.:-)

As most of you know, sadly, POTN will be shutting down soon. There is a new photo forum that has been created by POTN refugees. Looks to be, like POTN, very friendly. Easy registering and easy to post photos. You will find many of your friends from POTN already there. Check it out:

P.S. Someone has already started a Dragons/Damsels thread to post to.
