Should have gone for the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 then you would have had3 gold rings :p

But not a focal range I would have been happy with for my walk around, or USM, or IS. Besides the 17-55 does have a gold ring, just not a sigma gold ring.

Keeping with the realistic thing,

I have:
24-70L
70-200 2.8L
50mm f/1.4

If I was going full frame I'd sell the 50 and get the 35L. And if this was being unrealistic, I'd also grab the 85L + 300 2.8 IS and call it a day :)

What the...bit backwards, eh? You just suddenly want to switch from an 80mm focal length to 35mm? Sheesh! :p

I already posted, but my mind has changed since then. They are:

Some sort of fisheye (haven't look much into them)
17-40L
50mm F/1.8 II
85mm F/1.8
70-200L F/2.8

Does a x2TC count? I'd need one of those for the 70-200.

EFS 10-22mm
EFS 17-55mm f/2.8 IS (have it)
EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS
EF 50 f/1.4 (have it)

What I use? A 350D and 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, 99% of the time.
(Well...I did just get the 70-200mm 2.8 IS, so lets see that 99% go down)

I'm closing in on my realistic collection:

Canon 24 - 105 mm f/4 L IS
Canon 50 mm f/1.4
Canon 85 mm f/1.8
Sigma 150 mm f/2.8 EX DG
Sigma 100 - 300 mm f/4 EX DG (last one on my wishlist)

That would just about do it... if I could have a sixth, it'd probablly be the 17-40 L, but most times I find that 24 mm is plenty wide on my 5D.

I own my realistic 3 lenses:(

There are times I would love to go wider and longer, but for the most part these three do the trick

That's not very practical now, is it?

Your right, I really should go for 5 600 f/4s I would look cooler carrying those around, and that's what gear lust is all about, looking cooler than the next guy.

But realisticly I use 5 lenses for most everything (400 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 24-70, 16-35, 15 fish) That combo gets me through most assignments, but a thread asking photographers to theoreticaly pick their 5 favorites is silly. Every lens has a purpose, if you don't need it, don't buy it, if you do need it, go buy it.

I pretty much have my set. Change the kit lens to a EF-S 10-22, change the 50 1.8 to a 50 1.4 (the 50 1.2 is wanted, but not currently realistic) and add maybe a 100-400 and I am good to go.

Sweet new gear for a photogenic new year!

I think I have my "realistic" collection in my bag right now. "Realistic" meaning, "I can afford this".

50mm 1.8
Sigma 17-70mm
Canon 100-300 f4.5-5.6
(can I sneak my Zenitar fisheye in there? :p)
