I sent off a money order a couple of weeks ago to a user on these forums to buy the 1D. Turns out the mail is lost/stolen and I had to pay extra money to file a claim to find it, and it takes up to 90 days, and only after 90 days will I be able to get my money back.

There goes football season.

Two words.

Pay.

Pal.

Either that, or cashier's check and then just cancel it if it's lost.

Either way, that sucks bad. Sorry for your "loss", so to speak.

That sucks out loud, man.
I'd be hacked off too no doubt.

I cruise around FM a lot looking for gear but as soon as I see a FS post that says "check or MO", I take a pass for reasons you are now experiencing.

Here's hoping for an expeditious resolution. :-|

Hmm, hope you kept the copies...I would do a little checking around to see IF it somehow got cashed somewhere.

Sounds like a good reason to buy new.

Personally, I'd never deal with anybody that wanted money order or western union. It's too hard to track if something goes skewy. I buy everything with either a card (in a shop) or a cheque (by mail).

I don't touch Paypal. Too much to go wrong and no particular laws seem to apply to paypal. My wife got ripped off by PayPal with $300 that mysteriously vanished that nobody could trace. Now that should raise the red flag over Paypal!

There are a lot of things that should raise giant red flags regarding PayPal, but unfortunately they are one of the few convenient and widely used ways to pay for things on the internet. Still, it's wise to never carry a balance with them, just in case they decide to freeze your account.

There's always a trail when money is sent and received. Bank account records, PayPal transaction records, etc. Your statement is not only naive, it's also false.
