I recently purchased a One Wireless Radio Slave Flashgun Trigger Unit (transmitter + receiver) 4-channel. I thought I'd give a brief review of it as it was tough to find any info if they worked.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au …4QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem (external link)

When I first received it, it looked like a cheap design. Plastic etc and came with no instructions.

I tried it with my 30D camera and 580ex flash and worked very well. I tried it with my Sigma 500 (non super) flash and it wouldn't work.

I noticed there was a PC input in the receiver, so I tried it with my strobe lights and it worked again. Happy days :)

Therefore I'd recommend getting this unit instead of the studio one as this one I got can do both flash and strobe.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks for the review! I've been thinking about getting something like that.

Unfortunately, it seems like any non-E-TTL hotshoe (including shoe type slave triggers and PC cord-hotshoe adapters) won't work with the Sigma EF-500 DG ST. You can make them work on the Super model by selecting the optical slave mode on the flash, but the ST model doesn't have that option.

You might want to check the maximum shutter speed it will sync with. I know with some of those units you can't use your camera's maximum sync speed because there is a bit of a delay in firing the flash. Try it at 1/250 with your 30D and see if there is a black area in the bottom of the frame.

I'll give that a go.

I've been looking at these also as a cheap solution... How long did it take to arrive from Hong Kong?

Here's another review of these units:

haha!! This trigger is most commonly used by photography enthusiasts in HK!!
This can be used on any flash, even Manual flash or Auto flash!!
Just about HK$100, a 4 channel transmitter and receiver. Made in China.
But one thing, this machine sometimes won't work properly becoz of its bad QC...

I'm using it on my 580EX too!! :D :D

It doesn't work at 250th. 200th is OK though.

Does anyone know if these will work with Metz flashes in ETTL mode?

I bought a one receiver kit and was so impressed that I subsequently bought a two receiver kit as well. The PT-01 in the second kit didn't work at all and the PT-04 seems to talk to my original PT-04 causing them to flash off each other :-(

I am now in discussion with the vendor to try to get a refund on the faulty PT-01.

I was very interested by the link noted above, with particular reference to the EM radiation and am going to try wrapping my receivers with foil tape to so if that helps.

I just ordered mine and got it in 5 days from HK.

I haven't tried it out yet as I had to leave on a trip the next day and just got back.

Tried that. It works really well, except that it also blocks the signal from the trigger so they don't fire at all.

Have now tried just wrapping the top section, above the label bit and this seems to work providing the receivers are more than four feet apart.

When they work they are great, I just wish they would only work when you want them to not decide when they want to flash.

Ah John, I remembered you mentioning something about radio triggers in another thread, but I wasn't looking at getting them, so didn't pay any attention. It's almost worth buying 2 just to be sure!

I don't know. The multiple receiver sets on eBay seem to have one PT-04 four channel receiver and however many additional PT-01 one channel receivers. As I couldn't get my PT-01 to work I'm not over impressed.

It might be worth getting two single receiver sets so that you get two PT-04's you can then use the additional transmitter to test fire the flashes.

That is assuming you can get two receivers to work together without them upsetting each other.
