I was at Andrew Hayden Park by the Ottawa River last Friday and I saw this heron which I am convinced is the heron that Wayne ( liv2trip) has been posting ( brilliantly I might add) since the Summer . Its also the same Heron I posted a couple of days ago in flight and these two images were taken several minutes after that in flight when I caught up to him where he was perched on the railing of a walking bridge. The first shots has orange leaves on a hill in the BG and the second image BG has a Dogwood which was dark red with fall leaves....most of the leaves are down on the big trees. I had to back up several feet from my initial approach as the 1.4X tc was still on the 400. Slight crop on this shot ( 10-20%) off the bottom to remoce some of the handrail and the second image is full frame. I was within 15 feet of him for about 15 min while I was shooting Hooded Mergansers and he was still there when I left. A beautiful bird with a great disposition and patience for biders:D

4:00 PM Sun is pretty low in the sky and provided the nice light.

1 st image: 30 D 400 mm F5.6 and 1.4 x tc...manually focussed, Monopod, ISO 250, 1/1000 sec at F10

2nd image: 30 D 400 mm F5.6 AF, Monopod , ISO 200 1/800 sec at F5.6

Great shots, the bokeh on #2 is to die for, such depth of color.
