Deer opener

Nice thing about hunting with the camera is no dressing out and dragging back to the car. Got my deer at 11 am on opening day of the season, not too shabby.

The only down side of this kind of shooting....makes for some rather thin soup. Nice little buck though.

LOL so true. He was one of four bucks that I was stalking in a slough between a creek and a ridge. The first one out into the clearing was much larger and his neck was thicker being in full rut. It was a fun day, took my eight year old son along to bushwack the area. I told him we'd see some deer. We weren't out for more than twenty minutes when we first picked them up, bedded down in some tall grass. We then worked a semi circled arc around a they came into this clearing. Still fun to practice the same skills and get a day of memories for a young kid out in the woods with his dad.

Plus I can say, no animals were harmed in collecting this photograph.

Now, a deer in a gallop, is a great photo... and the tail isn't up, means only one thing...you didn't spook him, just yet...As curious as they are, he'll catch a slug sooner than later, prancing around like that...

No doubt, you guys were in a full blazing orange outfit...

I too, got a lens for shooting deer this winter...you're lucky you flushed these out...They are sitting real quiet around here, this year...hardly see any at all lately, since the season started...

As fast as they spook and run away, you are lucky to get away with that shot, congratulations...

Might have to wait till February, before they ease up and let anyone get close with a camera...

Beautiful capture. How come there not that wide open when you're hunting them?
Guess he must have known you only had a camera.

I was using a push out method. I knew where they would bed down and started to move them onto a ridge line that opened up to some wide fields. I gambled that they would stick to skirting the ridge and wouldn't venture the wide open areas.

Got lucky, we met them just as they crossed the break and was ready with the camera. It's a good technique when you have a nice broad valley and you can get between the creek and the ridge, they don't like to venture into to the open.
