After this lens I have 2 more on my list.
I want to get the 70-200mm f/4 L while its on rebate and I want the Sigma 10-20mm UWA.

yes the 70-200L is a nice lens...

it was a tough decision for me, but my sigma 70-200 was on sale and I wound up getting it for a really good deal.

Congrats!! I am hitting the button within the next 24 hrs. myself. Tell me who are you getting yours from and did you order the hood? I can't decide if I would use it or not. Someone please tell me where I could benefit from a hood. Outdoors in glaring light? Buydig has it for $336 and free shipping can anyone beat that?

Good good! It's a lovely lens. More solid than the 50 1.4, and much faster and more accurate to focus. It's very very sharp, and has very nice bokeh.

I just returned mine to B&H.

Kidding or not....., I watch BH for specials on returned lenses, I see lots of folks here say they have returned lenses, I NEVER see good Canon lenses on their used, or open box specials. What do they do with the returned units?

Unlike filters, where there seems to be an even split of those using vs. not using filters (as protection), every time I see the "should I use a hood?" question, the answer is yes. Generally speaking, hoods are used to reduce stray light, not just outdoors. I can't say whether they have helped or if I've benefitted from them but the lenses I have either came with hoods or I purchased them. I didn't get the hood with this lens but I do plan on getting it. It seems to be such a minimal investment for some added protection. Indoors (in my own apartment or studio) I don't use my hood but anytime I shoot outdoors or if I go to a car show or auditorium where the lighting can cause flare I have it on.

There are many places that have this lens for around Buydig's price and have free shipping but will sometimes be the slowest mode of ground delivery and I'm too impatient for that. I would have gotten it from BH but I'm in NY and don't want to pay the sales tax and shipping. I got mine from Amazon for $346 and opted for guaranteed overnight delivery.

I love my 17-70mm. It's proving to be an outstanding general walkaround lens. I like the Sigma's a lot.
It does look like we are moving in a similar direction. :D

Great lens. Smokes the 50 1.4 in every way and makes it look like a joke.

I couldn't wait any more. I keep seeing all the posts and archives with beautiful shots from this lens. I plan on doing a lot of portrait work and I love good bokeh. I've wanted this lens since the day I starting reading about it and now I ordered one. I should have it tomorrow afternoon and I am psyched.

congrats!
IMO better than t5he 50f1.4 and from f2.8 onwards is a sharp as they get!

I just got mine today. comparing to 50mm f/1.4, focusing is faster. I will probably keep it and return the 50mm

If you can aford it I'd suggest keeping them both as the 50mm comes in very handy when working in confide spaces espicially for 3/4 and full length shots. While I'd prefer to use the 85, the situation often calls for 50.
