I just received my 5d from B&H. I also have a rebel xt. Seems like when I display a picture taken inside, it has a yellow tint to it on the screen. But when I display on the pc it is fine. I took a picture inside on auto at 400 iso on both cameras. The 5d screen looks a little more yellow than the rebel. On the pc, both pictures have the same tones.

Is it possible the display on the 5d is off a bit? Would like to hear from some other 5d users. I am not sure if this is something I should be concerned about?

I shot a couple of pictures outside and they seem to appear fine on the 5d display.

White Balance setting?

Tried them all. There just seems to be a problem with the display. The actual picture is fine.

It appears there is a problem. see here http://****/y7udhk (external link)

I'm not sure how "color correct" the LCD display on the camera would be. Personally, I wouldn't use the LCD to determine WB or exact color. In fact, I really only use the LCD for viewing the histogram and sometimes to make sure that my subject didn't blink on a shot.

First rule of using digital cameras. Never, ever, ever juddge color or exposure by looking at the screen. Look at the histogram to judge exposure, and make sure tou are set to neutral color, and the correct white ballance and you'll be fine.

JRA has listed two of the 3 reasons to look at the screen, the third being to change menue items. Other than that I would just assume not have an LCD screen at all.

Digital photography is a fad.

Hmm, I can't agree entirely. I have had many digital cameras and the screen display has always been reasonably color neutral (though as said above, don't rely on the apparent brightness for exposure).

The display on my 5D looks pretty much exactly like the scene as shot when I use it in natural light. However when used in incandescent light, unless the appropriate WB is chosen, it WILL look yellow/orange - as will the image.

What exactly are you photographing, and with what settings?

Regardless of whether or not you use the LCD for chimping or not - if you paid such a good amount of money for the camera, it should work properly.
I wouldn't accept a yellow tint to my LCD, so if I were you, I'd send it in to get looked at.

I usually subsrcibe to that way of thinking but if it's not affecting the way you take pictures I wouldn't worry, if it's anything like mine it's just a tad off, I'm used to it now and haven't spared it a thought since I noticed it, there is every chance you'll get another one if other members are getting it. On the pessimistic side, you might even get a troublesome replacement.

That's kinda like saying that if your Porsche has a large scratch on the side of the car, it doesn't matter because it doesn't effect your driving.

Well not really, if the camera had a large scratch on it it would go back. My point was that if its not indicative of another fault and that alone doesn't bother you then there is nothing to worry about. Not wishing to get in to a spat over this so I will say it's down to personal preference. Terry was wondering whether there was anything to be concerned over, it looks like there are more 5D'ers with with slightly yellower casts to the lcd so on that point I'd say no. If that fact alone bothers him then take it back if it doesn't, then dont.

Just to add a footnote, I cant verify this but have just read on photo.net of someone that had this problem when he first got the body and now it seems fine, he seems to think it needed 'breaking in' I will have another look at mine tonight, as said before I cant say I've noticed it since athough I have sold my 350 so haven't got anything to compare it with. It might be a case of just getting used to it.

I have noticed the same problem.I have two 5d's and my first was pretty netural.the screen color on the second one is really off.It has a yellow/green tint. When I look at the actual files from both camera however, they are almost identical. Another annoying thing is that the focus leds inside the viewfinder on my second camera all go dark in the bottom right corner! I looked through 5 cameras and they all had the same problem so I just gave up.It doesn't affect operation or focus at all, but is annoying never the less!

Makes no difference. I usually shoot raw. But any setting, any subject, raw , or jpg. The tint is in the display and has not relationship to the picture. I decided to not worry with this problem just now. It does not effect the pictures. I agree the display is primarily for checking composition, histogram, etc. If I need to send in later for any reason, I will have them check it then.
