I have used this lens with my Canon 300/350 and 400D. I am very happy with the results. Any takers? See the two photos here:

Hello, I'll back you up. For about 1 1/2 years I'm using this lens next to a Canon 100mm macro and a Canon 300mm (f/4). Of course the difference is clear but it's and darn good all-round lens to walk around. I was happy to have on hollydays. It did the job extremely well. Combined with a flash it shows remarquable sharp portaits. Or perhaps I'm easily pleased (I didn't think so) :)
Greetings from Ghent, Alain

Yes, Alain. I think it's time newbies like me stopped being apologetic. Here's what the Cameralabs rating says:
Scores (relative to other zooms)
Build quality: Optical quality: Specification: Value: Overall: 17 / 25: 19 / 25: 20 / 25: 22 / 25: 78%

If you're expecting top flight performance, you will be disappointed.. but you can't beat these superzooms for convenience and reasonable image quality. If you are not pixel peeping, you should be just fine. :)
