Yep, the 234RC works well for me. Quality Camera sell it for $50:

Is that cheap enough?

Hey all, has anyone bought a camera body from overseas?

It hard to go past the prices but I'm concerned about warranty and the power supply/plugs having different voltage.

Or are there retailers in aus that have competitive prices and don't compromise on anything to get those prices.

Cheers!

I am in the US, and was just in Australia for a few weeks, and I used my camera charger with just the plug adaptor and it was fine. Most portable devices these days seem to work with the different voltage levels.

what body you after? as far as warranty the word on the street is they are not covered locally if purchased from an overseas retailer HOWEVER there are some places like HKSupplies who are Hong Kong based so get Hong Kong pricing but have an australian business number so warranty is covered even though the goods came from overseas.

Looking at a 5D. B&H have them for $3606 aus. I can't even find a price near that here. Wont be purchasing anything for at least another 6 months yet, just doing my research at the moment.

Just called Canon Australia and had this question answered once and for all (tho the answer was what I had expected).

Camera bodies are NOT covered by international warranty. If an imported body fails, it will need to be returned to the country of origin for warranty work (at your own expense).

Lenses ARE covered by international warranty. Imported versions will be repaired locally under warranty.

That said, Canon Australia can do repairs on imported gear -- just not for free ;-)a And they make good gear so unless it's DOA I reckon it's not a bad idea to import.

Just don't forget GST and customs duty -- you WILL be charged for both on orders over $1000.

heya Luke/Kinnon.

I called regarding the same thing. If the body is imported (grey) and sold under an AU ABN, they said it IS covered. I rang because mine was sold that way. AU ABN but imported from HK.

Technically, yes. But my parcel with more than AU$3500 worth of stuff from B&H wasn't intercepted and I never paid a cent to Customs nor UPS.

However, you are 100% correct. They have every right to charge you GST but I think I was just REALLY lucky. :)

BTW, I am so in love with my 70-200!

Buy it from the US. Even if you pay GST, it will end up being much cheaper than any store in Melbourne.

My experience with B&H has been fantastic. Packages are always padded very well and delivery is super quick.
