last night i went out to a drift practice at the local racetrack
ran in to Potn member WRC and i got some ok photos
last night was a little tricky, shooting into the sun, not enough light on the track, reflections of the back of my uv filter (i forgot to take it off and didnt notice in the preview on the LCD) and smoke from the car before reflecting the flash and the photos just coming out white

here is some of the best of what i got

Some cool shots you got. I dont get the drifting with crap tires though. They had to know going in they probably would not last???

Because cheap tires have crap traction. So cars with no power / suspension can make the back end swing out in turns.

Echo, I like the 2nd shot the most.

Well might chuck a few of mine up as well if you don't mind Echo. I gave up a bit earlier than Echo, because I left my flash in the car and couldn't be bothered walking all the way around the track to get it.

Samples from last night. The rest will be up on our site within the next 24hrs.

My favourite of the night coming out of the esses.

crap tyres are the worst thing for drifting. most of the guys that i know that drift only use quality tyres that give them good traction. crap tyres only lead to spins and damage.

also these cars have heaps of power. you strap a turbo to a v8 and see how much power you get.

That first one's gold and I like the silver (I think) RX-7 three down from that - I don't actually mind the lens flare there for once. Nice work.

i dont think they were crap tyres, i think they just had a few too many laps on them, and they thought they could get another go (5 or so laps) out of them

WRC - i love that first one of yours, i didnt manage to get that shot, by the time i had my camera up, he had pulled his hand back in and was trying to keep from spinning (which he didnt manage, i have a burst of him facing the wrong way)

Jim G - thats a series 6 RX7 and i couldnt make up my mind about it, the flare looks good but - its flared and that is normally something to be avoided, it kinda breaks the rules and im glad you like it enough to comment

I was referring specifically to the black 180 with the sparks. That car apppears to be completely stock (maybe springs / shocks on it), the rears look to be the original wheels, and the tires definitely show their age (look at their color). It looks like the guy wanted to use the tires up, or is fairly new to drifting. There is no confusing the sound of steel sprinning on the pavement over rubber. Not to mention the little pig tails of rubber that were probably slapping the wheel well.

there wasnt much change in noise when the car started throwing sparks but he should have felt it
he like most guys is relatively new to drifting, it is still a growing sport here in perth and most of the guys will run older tyres, here in perth tyre shops have to pay to get old worn tyres taken away, this costs 2-5 bucks a tyre so they dont mind giving them to a drifter for nothing because disposing of them then becomes the drifter's problem, these tyres still have some tread but are worn past the wear indicators and are no longer legal for the road but still last long enough for a few laps
