BTW for those still looking to build their own. I got everything at WalMart. Gotta love one stop shopping.

2 250/500 watt switchable halogen worklights, roll of easel sketch paper, and some nice vellum=$50 lightbox.

First test pic below... not so happy with the background...it's not white enough! Perhaps I do need to set a custom WB for this after all ;)

Custom WB adjustment will probably whiten things up a little. My prefered method is to increase exposure and then increase contrast. I've found when I do those 2 steps it whitens up my background pretty good. (another thing I sometimes do... is increase "shadows" just a hair)

I put a little group of my shots at: www.toddstack.com/lightbox (external link)

I think your first shot is very good. I think everyone battles the "white balance" issues... There might be better ways to increase the white background but like I mentioned above.... increase exposure and then contrast. If someone has a better way, I would hope they would share.

Also, I just wanted to point out that your "slash and burn" comment made me LOL !!

Good job though... I'm glad others are keeping the experience alive. :D

I switched to my 28-135mm IS lens. I'm not a huge fan of this lens but it seemed to do OK for this application.

In that case, perhaps for the next test I'll choose something ...not white ;)

I'm to lazy to try color backgrounds... hee hee.

I'll have to try and find something around the house to change the background.
:)

I would like to get a black background... something silky. Oh my goodness... I should smack myself for typing something like that.

The one thing I thought I could use is being used in our spare bedroom. I'll just have to go buy a few pieces of fabric too. :D
