I am at a loss to imagine why would you need the extra 11". And if you ever do, I think that Crypto's suggestion is a lot better solution with the Giotto head. It is very cheap and will add more flexibility.

I think your right, when I look at the pics of Crypto I think I have enought with 7", he has exaclty the same config as me... Seems perfect

actually, the off camera cord has a 1/4" threaded hole in the bottom. Works perfect for the ball head. And ofcourse, the slots for the other type. Shouldn't need anything but the head.

I'm trying to figure out why the screw on the delta is so long... it won't fit the tripod mount on my grip/ camera... how did you guys do it??

All people seem to use a washer to shorten the screw penetration. I personally use a water tap neoprene washer.

I used a shorter screw from another bracket. The screw on the flash holder I just sawed off. You may want to check out this thread:

I just use a bogen / manfrotto ballhead 1/4 20 screw to attach flash bracket to camera, it gives you just enough threads to attach to camera but if I want to attach the tripod ballhead plate to the flash bracket and then to camera I had to fabricate a new bolt.
yeah you could do like crypto did and drill and tap extra holes.

Pictured is my 400D with the 180 macro L series and the MT-24 dual flash, also shows my 50mm macro and 65 MP-E. The apparatus in front goes onto a tripod and allows very fine adjustments to allow depth of field to be set exactly. (not much use for bugs, unless they are pinned down.) also use all of this with my 30D.

Ok, Im a Nikon user, but I'll post my 2 current favourites. And yes, I think we all go a little overboard at times! Its an old 200mm f3.5 manual HOYA lens with a new Nikon f1.8D 50mm lens reversed on the front with a 52-58 reversing ring. This is Brian's doing, suggested the reversing ring It has a very shallow working distance, so Im waiting for those stoned spiders to appear so I can shoot them!

Okay, please don't laugh, but I haven't found the chance to make or buy a flash bracket yet, so this will have to do. The diffuser is cheap fortunately, and costs almost nothing.

DIY flash bracket for my 350D

Put together a flash bracket for my 350D from bits I had around the house .
Made from an aluminium strip (2 strips superglued together) and then the main part of a cheapo table top tripod ( I never used) complete with ball head fixing, screwed to the strut and one of my coca-cola can diffusers. Total cost about £10 (bought the table top tripod 1/2 price in sale in Boots). There is a strip of butyl rubber (pond liner) on top of the aluminium strip to grip and protect the camera bottom.

$4k camera and $.02 diffuser, that's awesome no laughing here! I'm not familiar with that lens (tho the name sounds like $$$) but I assume it is old FD style with an adapter right?

Well, it does make sense though...spent too much money on equipment and had nothing left over for a flash bracket. Still trying to figure out how to make one, but ever since I've started to get my career on the road, photography has really taken a back seat, much to my dismay of course.

The Voigtlander is not that expensive. I've seen it on sale on Ebay for approx US$650. I paid more than that for mine because it was from someone locally. If you would like to find out more about this lens, do check this out:

It's really much like a modern EF lens (no adapters required but they factory-make different mount versions), only that it's a manual focus lens. On top of that the bokeh and sharpness is quite stellar.
