I am wanting to update and customise my own website and have been evaluating Coppermine and like some of it's features but would like a bit more from it I think.

I have also been trying to evaluate EE as it looks like it has all the features I am after but have so far been unsuccessful installing it in an effort to evaluate it.

Can anyone suggest any galleries that offer the functionality of either of the above but with an easily customisable look and feel.

I've been using smugmug. Never heard of the ones above you have mentioned. but if you are java or CSS capable, smugmug pages can take on a very sophisticated look.

Personally, I am trying to migrate away from those hosts as my first point of contact with clients...

Hey, just checked out your site, and being an aussie too, makes me all the more interested. Looks like you have a good time shooting ;). Getting into rolling stone must have been a real buzz huh?

@pod - coppermine is gallery software for the user to install, not a pre-fab gallery website. :)

@blackshadow - coppermine and 4images are two of the main big ones in terms of features and ability. Neither they, or probably any, full-featured gallery program is going to be "easy" to drastically customize the look, beyond basic changes like colors and such. Gallery2 is another one, but it's a big server-side CPU hog, if that's any concern.

More free image gallery options (under image galleries on the side menu):

I'm running Gallery2 off an old box at my house, so far so good. It's been fun to play with. The only issue that I've encountered with CPU usage is the first time it generates thumbnails for a new album. I usually preview my albums personally, so it once it's done once it seems to run pretty smooth.

My deployment is at: http://images.fuzzysgraphics.com (external link) if anyone wants to check it out.
