The wife is about to "pop" any day now with our first child. It's going to be a little girl... :)

I took over the living room last night/today in the attempt to learn enough to get some decent maternity shots of her. This is my absolute first try at studio lighting so any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. I did notice that in some of other the pictures I was getting some bad shadows below her belly. In the future I think either lowering the ringlight or dropping a reflector on the floor would have helped. These are the "keepers" of the shoot.

These are all straight out of the camera with just a resize done (shot in B&W). What kind of PP effects (blurs mostly) do you think would improve the look of these shots?

Here is how I ended up setting everything up...

They are gorgeous. She'll treasure them long after she gets her waistline back.

Congratulations.

Lovely shots but there is also an 800pixels size limit on photos for the forum, just so you know.

Lovely skin tones there, and I have to say that the wee socks on the tummy raised a giggle, very cute.

Cheers, Dave.

Nice pictures, the lighting seems spot on to me.

Yeah, really nice complimentary shots. Nature is marvellous but I'm so glad this blessing has fallen to them and not us....

Wow these are great, love the booties idea..... may have to use that sometime.

From a woman's stand point I'm totally jealous... hehe my belly was/is covered in stretch marks LOL!

But really I think you did a great job capturing a wonderful time in life. Enjoy the last days.. because life is about to change for ever (mostly for the better lol).

Wonderful shots, Matt!
I love the simplicity and delicacy of the b/w, lighting and background. Beautiful!
More incredible is the subject... that's your child in there!
Wish I had thought of that...
