I probably won't be able to make the GTG this weekend (wife is about to give birth) but please put me on the list for notifications of future events. I actually live in Manteca but I'm in Sacramento atleast twice a week for work. :)

Darn it, I'm seeing signs of my plans to be in Sacramento unravelling already...
the odds that I'll be able to make it just went way down due to some family health issues.

I don't want to highjack this thread but while some Sac area POTN people are here - I thought I'd see if anyone's interested in shooting at a Sac area fireworks show on the 4th of July. (last year it was Rivercats outside the stadium)
I shoot the show so I can't shoot my camera but there are can be some great photo op's. And maybe someone can share some shots with me...;)

Here's a cool shot from a few years back.

Congrats, Matt...
I've got a couple of boys, the youngest is 2 now. I love being a dad... I would have started sooner and had more if I knew they'd be so much fun!

Thanks...I can't wait! When we went in last Thursday she was @ 3cm so it's going to be any time now. :)

BTW: If you are interested in a maternity photo shoot I did with her on Saturday check out this thread: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=301232

Okay, after reading what I posted earlier today, I now feel like I'm trying to take advantage of a pool of talent. Sorry about that, I'm pretty new to the forum I'm still learning the etiquette. I'm think I'm always looking for some different shooting opportunities and assume everyone else is too.
I respectfully retract what I proposed earlier.

Hope you get some great weather for your shoot this weekend.

Hope so too. What is annoying is the weather forecast was wrong and while it was dreary and overcast it was dry. Rain tomorrow apparently and then should be nice this weekend. Probably only a week or two more of the peak flowers so this should be a good weekend.

So do you actually set fireworks and you were hoping someone may get photos at one of the displays? I'm not sure anyone would have thought you were trying to take advantage. Its also likely one of us will be at one of the 4th displays so you could probably get some shots sent to you.

I usually check a couple different sources for the forecast and it's still a crapshoot. Sounds like at best it will be partly cloudy up there this weekend... aka patches of sunlight... which can make for some great lighting and contrast!

I have a show every year to setup and shoot as the pyrotechnician - that's me in the picture I posted. I've been doing this since '81. My shows have turned into a family affair with brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces as my crew. I have to keep the public quite a ways a way but my crew and family get to be close up - almost like a personal show. It's a cool vantage point as a photographer and a challenging thing to shoot. Now with some fast L lenses and stuff I've learned here at POTN, I'm thinking of letting my brother shoot the show and I'll get behind the camera.

Hey guys, I am new to POTN but figured I might as well stop by this thread after I saw it being as I live in Sacramento... Folsom to be exact. I would love to get together with some other photographers in the area to shoot some time. I hope some time it will work out.

Glad to have you join us.

So far the weather hasn't been doing us any favors, and it looks like it will be raining again Saturday morning. Sooner or later we'll get out :)

Don't worry, my two attempts to get a hike together in the foothills have coincided with crappy weather. Joe's getting a 1D3 party won't be till June it seems because of availability. Basically you haven't missed anything yet.

So, anyone just want to meet up for beers after work sometime soon? Hopefully we can arrange that successfully. :)
