New Bag Idea

So we've never been happy with a bag while shooting a wedding. Currently I use this: Lowepro Sideline Shooter

But a few new bags have come out.

The design of the shootsac is more what I was looking for, but the functionality of the Boda bag. Both are awesome bags and my wife will be ordering a shootsac for herself soon. So what to do . . . Design your Own!

We took the design of the shoot sac and a Timbuk2 messenger bag along with some of the functionality of the boda bag and the Tamrac Adventure/Expeditions that we own.

Its still a work in progress, but heres the layout. It'll have a front flap that can be folded over for leaving it open, and a zipper to keep it protected if not shooting. Underneath the front lap will be removable containers for batteries, cards, bus cards etc.

The strap would be removeable, padded, and allow for it to be worn on either hip. It'll have removeable pouches for memory and a Blackberry/iphone.

Its still in the design phase, but we're on vacation next week so hopefully we can get it started.

That Boda Bag looks AWESOME, but $195?!?!? And I don't like the fact that to put three lenses in there, you have to stack two of the smaller ones. For shooting on the fly, that just won't work for me.

yeah, if you didn't have to stack lenses I would have been more intrested, especially from a fellow Seattle photog

You know what, though, for traveling, this will be great...not on a pro level for me, but when I go with my family and shoot...I think I would like this alot...

I may have to get one...not sure which one or when...but I do like the concept...

Lisa, the Shootsac and the Boda Bag doesn't have room for a camera body, just lenses and other thimgamajigs - you load it to be use at a shoot.

I knew that...but I don't think it would work well for a shoot, if you have to dig for a lens...but, if you put your top priority lenses on top...I guess...and it sure would be easy on the back and shoulders...easier....

I also think..why not make one? I don't see why not..it won't be like theirs..but it sure could be done...????

but the shootsac has pockets for lenses, so its not that difficult to find them.

thats what we thought and why I posted. 150+ covers or 195 for the boda is a bit much when it doesn't meet my needs. For others that it fits their needs its awesome and I highly reccommend them.

Jessica (and others) seemed to think I was marketing this as competition, but that is not the case, just sharing a current project and giving ideas to other creative designers.

who knows. we're going to Whistler next week so I'm hoping we can get the material before hand and start building it up there. A big hangup is the laptop puch, we'll probably have to make a couple of them as our existing one is not long for this world, and one that I don't want to carry around (near 10lbs).

I think if you have the ablility to make one, DO IT...I don't have that ability. I can have ideas...but not the ability to do it all together...

Cory, you could make the laptop a pouch on the outside maybe with another flap over it to cover it. Just a suggestion, like an outer pouch

we have the time and energy to make 1 for ourselves. If this goes well we might make smaller version based on shooting needs and a laptop only carrying case that could have detacheable lens holders for my wife to carry. But I'm betting she ends up buying a shootsac instead.

Probably neoprene inside, thick nylon outside. I'd like to embroider a logo, but we don't have a file setup with anyone yet, and its beyond our abilities.

The outside will be much like the Timbuk2 messenger bags and the inside much like a normal camera bag.

I'll "beta test" one for you. See how it holds in our weather here in Sweden.

Ooh, I love the designs of Jessica's bags. I don't like the look of the Boda bag. I know, I know, I'm horrible, I don't look past how cute or cool something looks! I have the 5 & 7 million dollar home crumplers, black & blue, and army green & lime green, respectively. Coolest bags I've seen, other than Jessica's now. It would be nice to have something better to carry while shooting. Keep us posted, Corey!

I am a huge fan of the crumpler bags ( www.crumplerbags.com ). They are well built and as Jessiper stated they are the "coolest bags" ever. I have the 3 million dollar home and I am seriously looking at getting the Brazillion dollar home so I can lug all my gear around.

Does any one have any suggestions on bags for light stands, Back ground stands, Umbrellas etc? I don't currently have anything, so it makes it difficult to be mobile.
