Hi Ben,

24-105, because it is the perfect portrait zoom on my 400D.

When you calculate the geometrical midpoint of this zoom (sqrt(105/24)*24), you'll find it is 50 mm, which translates to 80 mm AoV on the 400D. And I don't need F/2.8 for portraits, because I want more than eyes or nose to be sharp :), I want the tip of the nose AND the ears sharp in the same picture :).

Kind regards, Wim

Hmm... you might want to edit the text in the poll? Right now it's saying:

* Canon 70-24mm f2.8 L
* Canon 24-70mm f4 IS L

I bet most people would vote for "neither" at the moment.

Your choices are a bit muffed up. 70-24 f2.8 L or 24-70mm f4 IS L

I voted 24-70mm f/4L IS, however I own the 24-105mm.

:lol:

I'm going to guess the intention was 24-70 f/2.8 L or 24-105 f/4 L IS. What I want to know is, where is the option for both?

Speaking of 28-70 lenses, what do you people think about the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8-4 DG lense? I am thinking of replacing the Canon 18-55 kit lense that came with my Rebel XTi and would appreciate some opinions.
Thanks,
Wayne

Wow, I botched that poll.
Chalk it up to drinking and posting and the fact firefox only catch miss spelling, not stupidity.

Easy enough to see what I mean by the aperture, but yeah, whoops. If a mod wanted to fix that it'd be great since I can't edit a poll...

Ben

Hey Jac,

If thats the only mistake you made this week...your in good shape.;)

Right now I am trying to decide which one to buy. Tried a friends 24-105 IS the other day and it for sure is a sweet thing. But I do know what the 2.8 can offer. Gonna have to do something before the end of the month. Really unbelieveable how much has been said about these 2 when you do a search here and elsewhere. If I didn't have kids and bills the choice would be easy. Have both of them...:D

Well, at least the thread title was a little help. :p

I own the 24-70 simply for the 2.8 max aperture that the f/4 cannot offer. They are both amazing lenses, but the choice is simple. If you find yourself NEEDING 2.8 a lot then get the 24-70; if you find yourself NEEDING more zoom than 70mm and would only use the 2.8, you know, everyonce-and-awhile then get the 24-105 and maybe a flash if you don't have already one. Like I said, I've used both of these and the IS on the 24-105 is great but for what I do it is irrelevant because I NEED to stop motion, not just my camera shake.

the poll looks too skewed to me. i think you should erase the votes and let everyone vote again.
