I looked at all the features that the MultiMax offers and I can't see a reason to own one. I can always add one down the road but for now it wouldn't do anything for me.

I agree, Robert. I was just trying to rib you since I when I bought my PWs, I did end up getting one MultiMax unit and then wondering maybe I shouldn't have since it by itself really doesn't let me use all the MultiMax specific features, like zoning.

I did eventually convince myself ( ) that it really wasn't a waste of money because there are other features the MM has which can be useful, such as the 2nd curtain and the delayed triggering capabilities. And it can serve as both a Tx and an Rx with the ability to do relaying which was the main reason I got it in the first place (the Plus II wasn't available back then when I got my PWs).

I could see that if the PW Plus II's were not available and you needed the relay feature. Then it would make sense. Right now my requirements for wireless triggering are simple so I think I'm going to be fine with the Plus II's. I love them already and the few tests I did with them, the Sekonic L-758DR and a wired remote all had excellent results.

I was sold on Pocket Wizards even before I bought them but now that I own them I can't even imagine not having them. And the cool thing is that if I want to take my 580EX (with hot shoe adapter to receive sync) and use it wirelessly off camera (non-ETTL) I can, or for that matter use the 580EX with my AB's, connecting the PW to the 580EX and letting the AB's fire optically.

Since all my lighting is in my home studio (for now at least) I don't need extra PW's and I'm not worried about other photogrpahers tripping my lights.

so link me to that pocket wizard, i will buy studio lighting very soon [to buy i will buy for order which take about a week for availability] and sure i need PW's.

As I shoot allot of sport and studio, I love my PW's.

Couldnt live without them now!

dude, congrats. i'm all about wireless triggering.... couldn't live without it on location or in studio!

i look forward to getting a multimax... its on my list of things to buy within the next few weeks, before my wedding season starts.

i can get the pocket wizard plus IIs for 154 each, i can also get a l-358 for 210. altogher its around $520, is this a good enough set up for 4 AB strobes? i kinda want to get these before im not eligible for the deal, but i dont want to spend money when i dont have to, ya know?

i have the l-308s now.

awad, its not a bad deal. just don't expect much from those AB's.... depending on what you shoot.

I think you already know what to expect from the AB's. They perform great and unless you really require the more expensive monolights or a pack and head system then the AB's are great. That's not just me saying it. Many people, including large numbers of pros are using AB strobes with excellent and consistent results.

Those prices seem pretty good. In general the PW Plus II's sell for about $189 a piece at BH and the meter is listed at $259 at BH but when you add it to your cart it becomes $239. That seems to be the going price. So $154 and $210 are pretty good prices.

alright thanks guys. i love my ABs, i've had them for a few years now, and i just got the abr800. i'm a huge fan of them, but in my studio, i trigger them with my 580, and outside i trigger them with the sync cord. i had a job a few weeks ago where i had to use the cords and i was having a hell of a time trying to get the optical triggers to see each other and i just felt stupid. i have the ebay radio triggers but they're usually pretty unreliable which is why i went back to the 580+sync cords. i think i'll pick up two or three PWs this week. thanks again.

The Sekonic L-758DR and Pocket Wizards is really a winning combination.

Hi Ben,

If the Sekonic L-758DR is what you need then it's amazing. It's much more meter than most need but as I've said many times.. if you either own the L-358 or were planning on buying it, and also were thinking that in the near future you wanted wireless triggering from your meter and 1 degree spot metering then the L-758 is worth looking at. By the time you added the Pocket Wizard module and the spot metering attachment to the L-358 you'd be well on your way to affording the L-758DR. Additionally, with the L-358, if you want to rake incident readings, reflected readings and/or 1 degree spot metering then you now have extra parts and need a way to store or carry them. With the L-758DR it's all built in and has a very nice case... no extra pieces to store or lose.
