I'm looking to upgrade my XT for all the usual reasons - better build, better focus, controls, viewfinder, etc. I was considering getting a refurbed 20D from Adorama, but it looks like those supplies are finally exhausted. I noticed that Beach still has new 20D's for $900. At that price, am I crazy to consider purchasing a body that will in all likelyhood be 2 generations removed by the end of the year?

For that kind of money, I would just get a slightly used 30D. There are 2 on the for sale forum right now, one for $925 with 6 mo. warranty left for $925.

There is another for $900 as well farther down.

I would go for a 30D. It is very similar to the 20D, but has good improvements that would keep it from being so far behind :)

for that price get a refurbed 30d for $899 (if you can find one) or just get a new 30d for $1100, the big cost savings with the 20d right now is to pick up one refurbed or used. new, i would just go 30d.

People are thinking later this year (September/November/December).

Probably the only diffs will be more MPs (Probably 10 to compete with the D200) and a few features here and there. Everything now is rumours though.

I am going to get a 30D this week and thought about the 40D, but really the 30D is an amazing machine that is not going to be pitched to the curb when the 40D comes along. The 30D is even very competitive with the D200 even though it has 2 less MPs on paper.

Buy what suits your needs and don't worry about what models are down the road. It will still do what you want and become your back-up when you upgrade next.

Looks like the 20D is going to fit my needs. Just bought a used one, in 10 condition, from B&H.
