Hi guys
Im new to photography and would love to one day have my own business. I was wondering how u guys print? Do U use your own printers? If so which are the best ones? I have printed photos before and they have faded, But it was a cheap printer. but which ones wont let this happen?
Or if you use labs which ones? And where do I find these labs, do U just ring your local Kodak and find out?
Thanks in advance

I would second Gatorboys' recommendation but you also suggest you search this forum: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 as it will contain relevent information. Good luck, Dennis

I print at home with an Epson 4800. Its a great machine but not for the casual user. Canon and Epson have some amazing products these days, and HP is getting in their too now.

If ordering online, WHCC, MPIX, and costco all do a great job

I have 2 Hi-Touch dye sublimation printers for anything up to 6x8 - Inkjet for 8x10, Costco for larger sizes and batch printing.

I just stop by a local Sam's Club. I'm impressed with the quality results of 24x36 prints. They use HP printer and inks. I shop while they work on my print job, then return an hour later to pick it up. It's about $21.99 for a 24x36 poster.

If your new to photography then I would have someone else print like those mentioned above. Diving in for your own printer could be a pricey investment that could sit idle if your interest in photography fades. I print on-site with a Canon ipf5000 and for those prints larger I go to my local printer guru who has an Epson 9800PE.

I print 13" x 19" lower cost fine art prints, and all of the smaller prints I do for any event photography at home. For my more upscale fine art pieces I use a lab that does light jet printing. My home printer is a canon i9900 and it's GREAT. Best investment I ever made into my business, even moreso than my camera.

I just picked up the Espon 3800 a few weeks ago and love it. It's definately a big investment, but when I compare it with everything else I've purchased it doesn't seem too bad. (or so I try to convince myself) However if I ever end up needing to make multiple prints, I'll shop around for a pro shop to do it because it would likely be cheaper. But for the few prints I do at home or for the office the 3800 is more than enough for me.

Hello Jon,

I see that you use an inkjet printer for your 8x10's. I'm inclined to do the same thing, but is it cost effective? I'm just curious.

EDIT: I guess anyone else who print their own can answer my question.

Peace,
Yanis :D
