I thought it would be interesting to get a thread going on this, since there has been so much discussion. Perhaps we'll even find out that there is a possibility to meet up in a location, or even better, meet up with some of the Alaska POTN members.

Anyone going Northbound on a Holland America cruise in June?

I am going to Alaska in June also. We are flying out of Houston to Fairbanks on June 6th for a 3-day land tour. We will end in Wittier(sp?) to catch the ship on June 9th and doing a southbound cruise, inside passage and then will be flying out of Vancouver. I am so excited to be going. Not much longer.

I'm trying to organise a trip there... but I'm wondering if I've left it too late with flights, accommodation etc...

I think you might be a little late but check with the cruise lines as you might get a great last minute deal. Airfare will be higher but if you save enough on the cruise, who cares?

For all you going to Alaska.....don't forget a nice pair of binoculars for your non-camera spouse. I just got a fabulous pair of Celestron Noble 8x42 today fro $249. I think I'll probably be looking through them as much as my camera lens! Really, really nice glass and small enough to fit in a Mountainsmith Vibe II fanny pack.

just got back from two weeks. Here is one of my favorite images that I have culled thusfar

We had PERFECT weather. Hope you have the same.

I chose to take only a monopod on the trip. It was the best thing I took as I used it with my 135-400 in the glaciers. Never missed not having a tripod. I brought my external flash and never used it the whole week.
