My dad gave me his rolling and very sturdy tripod from like 1980 or so. The head is just made of springs. Does anyone know if I can replace the head on this tripod for a newer better head? If so, which one would you recommend? Thanks!!

Most heads currently available require a circular platform with a male 3/8-16 stud in the center to attach the head to. Skip Douglas

![]() Thank you Skip! I don't know much about tripods, and was hoping I could put a new head on this old tripod, but I guess not. lol. My only choice is to purchase a nice Bogen one in the future... https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=2962090&postcount=534

If you can remove the center column and the center column is of a size that will match another tripod I'm sure then you can replace the head along with the center column. If not, then you can fabricat one from rigid aluminuim.

Checking for a replacement center column would probably be the best suggestion like lostdoggy said. Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife, AND a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

Cost a couple a buck or two maybe. Man, and I thought my old tripods were out there.

In the 2nd photo in the 2nd post, it looks like the top small round thing in the side of the knurled disk is an allen screw. Loosen this, and the silver disk may spin. You may find a usable fastener under this. shooting club VB and club soccer, hoping to get back to landscape work soon.
