2 of my daughter I snapped today.. EF 18-55 @ 24mm, 1/60sec, f 4.5, ambient lighting. I was never good at shooting people but I'm trying to learn.

She's really cute! I would suggest you use a little fill-flash to brighten up the main subject (your daughter!!). Try and set your focus point on her eyes.......that will make the picture appear much sharper and put her face in focus. What kind of dog is that? Looks like a Schnauzer of some sort!!

It's ok.. and yes, the dog is a miniature schnauzer..

These are LOVELY shots and I think you've done a good job with them. Keep it up and when you get the chance, go for either the 85 1.8 or 50 1.4 lens. Both are very reasonable (especially used which is how I got mine) and will let you do some great low-light or natural light portraits with very shallow DOF.

thanks charles.. I really do want to get some better "portrait" lenses. Something to look in to.
