Was it listed as in stock for $4500 last night when you ordered it? I thought it sold out early afternoon...

Got the second to last one. Should have said late afternoon.

Went ahead and cancelled the order. Still no info Thursday morning.
So there might be one showing up at Amazon soon. Whoever gets it, I hope you have better luck actually getting it than I did.

I've been refreshing Amazon non-stop for the last hour in hopes of seeing your canceled item but I've had no luck...

Got my MkIII from London Camera Exchange, Southampton two weeks ago only 5 days after enquiring about one - had to leave a hefty deposit of £500 to get priority.
I'm an amateur photographer interested in bird photography and got this camera to allow autofocus with super telephotos and extenders and for fast autofocus particularly for flight photography. Not had a lot of time to do any birding yet but landscape and portrait images are great - an improvement over my 20D. The focus microadjustment is great for my long lenses which were all focusing either short or long.

There's new firmware floating about (v1.0.9) - seems only available from CPS centres. I've had confirmation from 2 owners, one US and one UK. It appears to fix soft images on the LCD and, drum-roll, several AF issues.

Interesting. I have just sent an email to CPS in Denmark about that so I will see what they have to say about this.

For all of you that ordered from Amazon.com and have not received it yet, I had the same experience last week. Web page listed two in stock @ $4500. I placed and order for one. I made it "one day" shipping. I received the following notice . . .
_______________

Shipping Details : (order will arrive in 1 shipment)
Order #: xxx-xxxxxxx-1719605
Shipping Method: One-Day Shipping
Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible
Subtotal of Items: $4,499.00
Shipping & Handling: $31.91
------
Total for this Order: $4,530.91

Shipping estimate for these items: July 16, 2007
Delivery estimate: July 17, 2007 1 "Canon EOS 1D Mark III 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)"
Electronics; $4,499.00

Sold by: Amazon.com
_______________

The 17th arrived and I waited patiently for it to arrive . . . it did not. The following day I called customer service and was connected to some female in India and all she would tell me is that they would notify me when it shipped but could not tell me when. I finally (after about 6 call) reached someone in the US and he proceeds to tell me that the "item was not available at this time. I questiond him on the web page saying that there were two available and his answer was some one must have beat me to them. He had no answer as to why I received the "shipping" notice. I hope y'all get yours, but I won't trust Amazon.com again . . .

It's not showing up on the Canon USA site under downloads.

Several DWF members have had it applied today though, so it exists.

If only it weren't the equivalent of $1500 more than the US MSRP...

Just ran across this:

http://forums.dpreview.com …rum=1032&message=24054770 (external link)

maybe the source of the "false" rumors. I just wish Canon would be more forthcoming with this whole thing. This may actually be the case that he has 1.0.9 on his camera but without Canon saying so it make it hard to know if anything is true or not.

Yeah, it's a long thread of people whining about one guy calling another guy a liar for having the 1.0.9 firmware. However, toward the end (the newest posts), it seems that more and more people are being nice and confirming the release.

If only the people at DPReview were as nice as the people here...

:) Well, most of the people here. :)

It does sound like there may be a firmware release working it's way out, but dang it, why won't Canon acknowledge any of this....I'm really beginning to wonder about them....

Mine arrives in the morning (two of them) and the dealer stated they just got them this week. I will open one of them, the one I wil be using, an post the firmware # which I suspect will be the same old one still.
