Dan, what i did was talk to B&H and try to schmooze one of the sales managers. we talked for about 15 mins or so and finally he agreed to give me a call as soon as they get them. well, 4 days later i get a call from him telling me that he put one aside for me.

I don't get it. It is because of customer service, or lack of CS? Then why buy a IIN?

I was told certain things which turned out to be outright lies. I'm not going into it on here but i will not buy from people who are not totally honest with me.

As for why i'm getting the MK2N over the MK3 (which i now wish i'd done months ago) it's simple. The money saved is a sizeable chunk of a lens purchase i've been mulling over for a while :) .

The MK2N is still more than sufficient for my purposes anyway. I may well find i don't need a MK3, after all, i've "managed" with a 20D for the last 2 years :)

If you ordered from Amazon on Tuesday, it doesn't look like we'll be getting them anytime soon:
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

We are very sorry for the delay in completing your order. I have
reviewed your account and can see that this experience has been far
less than positive.

We strive for convenience and efficiency at Amazon.com, but in this
instance we have fallen short of our goal. I'm truly sorry that your
impression of doing business with Amazon.com has been so negative.

As this was not what you expected while placing your order as a
compensation for the inconvenience caused I am issuing a promotional
certificate of "$5" for your future purchases with Amazon.com. I
understand that a promotional certificate cannot compensate for the
inconvenience caused, please accept it as a goodwill gesture and
apology for adding stress to what should have been a happy occasion.

This $5.00 promotional certificate will be automatically added to
your account.

I can assure you that we are working hard to obtain this item for
you and we will ship it as soon as we are able to obtain it. This
means that we will ship the item as soon as we receive it from our
suppliers even if the estimated ship date has still not arrived.

Please allow me to explain that sometimes unexpected fluctuations in
supply can add time to our original availability estimate. We have
learned that "Canon EOS 1D Mark III 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body
Only)" is now back-ordered, and our supplier has not been able to
let us know exactly when they expect to have more in stock.

I'm sorry that you were not notified sooner of this change in
availability.

We will ship the item as soon as we are able to obtain it. You
won't be charged until we ship it to you. On the date of shipment,
we'll send you e-mail confirming the date, contents, and method of
your shipment.

We would understand if you'd prefer to cancel your order. You may
cancel unshipped items through the "Your Account" page, accessible
at the top of any page on our web site. To cancel your order,
simply click "Cancel items or orders." After signing in with your e-
mail address and password, you will be able to view your order
history and cancel your order for any item that has not yet entered
the shipping process.

Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing about the order you placed on July 17 2007 13:31 PDT
(Order# xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the
item(s) as soon as we
expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the
item(s) may be delivered:

"Canon EOS 1D Mark III 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)"
[Electronics]
Estimated arrival date: 09/20/2007 - 09/24/2007

Wow. Camera just came. Charging battery right now. Constantly checking Amazon might not be a bad idea. ;)

Anyone was at the Beckham Party sunday night. I ran into it since I was photographing Little Tokyo in LA. I didn't (and don't) have a flash so pics are not good but the thing is that I didn't experience any focusing issues. The place was pitch black. I've had the camera for a month.

The reported issues are in bright sun and extreme heat... so you were not exactly in that setting.

hahahahahahaha. yea. and, once again, the "issue" concerns the ai servo mode. it's not super hard to focus on a group of people posing for a picture standing perfectly still but good job.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

You guys suck. You made me do it.
I have a link on my toolbar that goes right to the Amazon page for the Mark III. I check it a few times a day. Yesterday, it had 4 available for that $5,500 price through some other dealer. Today, one left through Amazon at $4,500. So I clicked the order button. Argghh!!!!

Shipping Method: Two-Day Shipping
Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible
Subtotal of Items: $4,499.00
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
------
Total: $4,499.00
Gift Certificates: - $83.21
------
Total for this Order: $4,415.79

So, I'm probably going to have a 5D for sale very soon.
