All the XXD body's have been same or cheaper than the one it replaced, Id say $1299-$1399, but the competition is so strong they may go even less. $1099 with 18-55 IS EFS kit lens?

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

There are some interesting comments & speculations about the size of the RAW data ...

12 MB looks too much for just a 10,1 Mpx sensor ... even for the sRAW ... normally the size of the RAW data in MB usually match around the Mpx size .... so that it can suggest (speculation) a possible 14 bits depth ???

There is no confirmation or leak about it yet !!

Something doesn't ring true for me. The official specs for the 1DmIII are RAW = 10 Mb and sRAW - 2.5 Mb. Since the MIII is writing 14 bit that means that the RAW is compressed more than previous CR2's. However the relationship between the RAW and the sRAW is right, 1/4 the resolution and 1/4 the size. But if the 40D RAW will be 12 Mb, does that mean it will have the old compression? From a Digic III chip? And why would the sRAW be 7 Mb? Even an uncompressed 2.5 Mpx file written to 14 bit depth would be only 4.375 Mb. Something ain't kosher here.

I agree, it´s something that is taken the attention of many people about this numbers ... and normally the specs that Rafa Irusta reveals match the real model !!! I have sent him an E-Mail to see if he can put more light on these specs ....

I quote myself :)

I have just received the answer from Rafa and unfortunately he also doesn´t have more info about ...

The specs already revealed in these two wires until now are considered "true" but the speculations about DIGIC3 and Weather sealing still are speculations ...

About the size for RAW and sRAW, the numbers are aprox. depending on ISO used ... and it looks to be true also ... we will see ...

Now only rests to wait until the "official announcement" ...

If something else is revealed in between, I shall post it here. :D

Cheers

According to Canon USA's web site, the 1D Mk III's file sizes are:

(5) RAW: Approx. 13.0MB (3,888 x 2,592)
(6) sRAW: Approx. 7.6MB (1,936 x 1,288 )

These are file sizes, not megapixels.

I know its been said, but the quality of the image and the seamless integration of the new elements of the camera make me believe this is in fact the real deal... The only thing that seems odd to me the diagonals that make up the LCD they seem choppy to me... But it just might be the resize... I'm believing this one... If this infact a fake... I want to meet the guy who did it.... So i can shake his hand...

Jusitn.

You are SOOOO setting yourself up for disappointemnt. No way will it be $1099 with the new IS kit lens; the 30D body alone JUST dropped to that level a couple months ago.

Be realistic: $1400 +/- $100, 10mpx, and any significant weather sealing or 14bit is highly unlikely.

Well think back to the D60 owner that seen the 20D introduced at half the price he payed 2 and a half years earlier. The 20D was introduced at $1499 and the 30D was $1399, This new camera should follow that pattern regardless of the new features that the competition already have.

K10D with Kit lens is $850
E510 with 2 kit lenses is $890
GX-10 with kit lens is $690

Every one elses entry cameras are comming in at $500+ with their prosumers coming in $100-$300 more.

With the prices getting lower and lower canon will eventually have to follow to keep up with competition.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Looks like people at Canon don't talk to each other. This is from the White Paper on the 1DMIII

The pictures are very similar to the style used by Canon on their hard copy marketing material. Not the detailed pages, but on the front cover highlighted the camera. As soon as I saw them, I knew they were real. Forgeries don't usually follow the style guide for the marketing department. :)
