Let me explain... I work freelance for a local paper covering the football (soccer). I have a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for the match but need a fast lens for head and shoulder shots, Press days etc etc. I am on a budget. £220 tops really. The job pays peanuts so I dont want to spend too much.

I was looking at the 28-135 IS USM but people on here dont rate it. I know that isnt a fast lens but the IS would come in handy for firing off quick shots in low light etc. I would need it to be fairly wide.

What do people recommend? I was looking at the tamron 28-75

Yeah... I had a canon 50mm f1.8 mark II before and sold it as I wasnt impressed. I was thinking about a fast prime but I was also thinking the flexibility of a zoom might come in handy...

Yeah, that 50 1.4 is an amazing lens. You just might have to back up some of the time to get your shot.

There's some Jessops Stores that are offering the Sigam 18-50 2.8 for £210.00 instead of the normal £330.00. Damn fine lens as well.

Aye but the store local to me (Cowgate, Peterborough) has a massive closing down sale so they have reduced it to £210.00 and they only have 2 left as of 4pm today. :( I am trying to sort funds to get one. Had to buy an Aircon unit for my studio today so didnt have the fundage...
