this is a fairly common occurance for those that drop it. Most report just putting the two pieced back together and pushing. good luck.

WTF?

I like the lens, cheap or expensive I dont mind.
I want to repair it properly myself.

Is there someone who did repair a lens in the same condition who can help me?

thx guys

ok i dont mean to sound like a moron. maybe there is a place online where it will show you how to put it back together? i love my lens, and would probably have my husband fix it for me if i broke it. hes the smart one like that.
i hop that your able to do it, and find some info on it. maybe as a DIY project take pics of each step as to save other people the trouble in the future?
hugs.
shannon

You're going to have to literally snap it back in place and will require some pressure/force. If both pieces are intact and you are sure that there aren't any small plastic pieces or pins broken then you need figure out how it is aligned and do so with regard for whether the lens is focused to minimum distance or infinity.

I'm not saying it's a throwaway lens or that you should feel any better about it but it is an inexpensive lens and it's great that it didn't happen to another more expensive one. Under warranty it would not be repaired for a drop like that and out of warranty it doesn't even pay to think about the cost of a repair.

So anything you do is fine. If you can fix it, great. If not you're no worse off than you are right now.

Wow! thanks! there is a LOT of LSI in a lens. I can imagine the 1200mm or 600mm LSIs ...!

Duct tape should fix it :)

Edit: Does anyone have a link for the 18-55 kit lens? I've been planning an autopsy for some time... hehe

Oh geez.

I have heard nothing but good things about this lens, so I bought it. It is waiting for me at work when I get there tomorrow. Now I hear this. $75 U.S. or not, I dont want to pay for a lens that spontaneously falls apart.

Now I am worried.

as long as you dont drop it on something hard, you'll be fine.

I dropped my nifty two days ago on hard concrete in Vancouver. Not even a scratch. I was secretly hoping it would break so I would have an excuse to get the 1.4 .

Want mine? ;)

In all seriousness though, I hope it turns out fine. I would be lost without my 50. Best of luck.
