Hi there- I was looking at some extension tubes on warehouse express here (external link) because there aren't any on ebay just now lol

Anyway it says "* Does not fit Canon EF-S Lenses"

Well isn't the Canon 100mm macro 2.8 and EF lens; is is not an EF-S lens... does the "S" make the difference

Will be grateful for any help- if I get some help before 4pm I can order them for tomorrow :D

--edit-- also I was just wondering it says that AF "may not be possible" but I have AF with my jessops set... is this just a "may' or it WILL not work? Like how far after 32mm of tubes will I retain AF... 40mm, 50mm or will the full 60mm of tubes work with AF on my 100mm 2.8 macro lens? I've seen this done but don't know if they used AF or MF... thanks

If the tubes reduce the effective aperture too far, the image will be too dim for the camera to AF reliably. But that's going to be affected by the lens you're using and how many tubes you've got attached. The kit lens at 55 mm and with all, what, 68 mm of tubes would be pretty dim with an effective aperture of around f/9. Note - the kit won't mount on unmodified Kenko tubes, but several people here have removed the bits of the tubes that interfere with EF-S lens use on theirs.

What brand tubes? Canon, Kenko and Jessops work.

It's an EF lens, and works with the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens.

The EF-S lenses are for the 350D/400D and 20D/30D bodies. EF-S lenses won't mount on 1D/5D bodies (unmodified). What body do you have? [edit] Never mind. Just saw your Gear List and see it's a 350D.

There's been some threads in the macro (or was it the lenses?) forum recently about AF etc with tubes. I believe there is a "taped pin" trick to get AF to work, but most of the macro pros seem to say if you're using tubes you need to MF anyway.

The jessops tubes will work with both EF and EF-S lenses, they are exactly the same as the pro-optics sold by adorama and work quite well, They are plastic like the kenkos, I wouldnt use them for anything heavier than a 70-200 2.8.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I didn't know there was anything heavier than the 70-200 2.8 :-)

Kidding - I know there is. It's just the heaviest lens I own.

I use Kenko and they are great on all my lenses, including the 70-200 2.8 is.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife, AND a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.
