I don't want to cross post, so will just post this link:

Thank you. ;) That was a very nice write up BTW.

Here's my 30D, Sigma 150mm, 580EX II and Delta bracket. Utilizing the PC port on the 580 instead of buying the off-shoe cord. Have Kenko tubes but frustrated @ apparent IQ loss when attached. Plus it makes it even harder to hand hold, but man do they get you close!

The lens is a reversed Nikkor 35-105 zoom from my Nikon F. With no extension tubes it'll go to about 1.6:1. Interestingly, the zoom adjustment acts like a focus adjustment with the lens reversed.

For less magnification I have the Canon 60mm EF-S macro.

Flash bracket handle is a modified minipod I bought about 40 years ago - it has a nice ball head.

Ok this is what I have now.
First pic is with a clip on diffuser.

Second pic is with my home made diffuser, just an empty strawberry carton with a piece of the stuff they wrap new equipment up in it's stronger than kitchen paper.
Idea for this was inspired by Attic, Alby. Thanks mate.

Got hold of a flash and used the kitchen roll to diffuse it. Took the shot below with it. The shot would have otherwise been impossible without the flash.

Is the 7" delta bracket and a 430ex long enough for a 20d and 100mm 2.8 w/hood and set of extension tubes?

might have to lose the hood, but you shouldn't need it anyway.
