I am a beginner using a Canon Rebel XTi and I am looking for a solid, inexpensive lens for sports action shots of my kids. I am looking at the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus Lens. Anybody have experience or advice?

Both, but mainly outdoor. Football and baseball.

You could do an awful lot better but its not a bad lens. And ultra-cheap too, you can get it brand new for like $180. Its better regarded then the Canon 75-300 equivalent which costs a bit more (usually around $250)

Shooting with the Canon 5D & Nikon D300... and now the 20D!

For the price it's great, but it may not be fast enough in certain conditions.
