As of 8:30 AM this morning the shipping status has changed at Amazon:

Availability: In stock soon. Order now to get in line. First come, first served.
So I added one to my cart and it said...
Estimated ship date for this item: September 28, 2007 - October 12, 2007

Wonder if they sold out their original allocation and this only applies to new orders. Or does it now apply to all orders?

My order from yesterday still says shipping today.

Now I'm confused. :(

Sounds like you are lucky. I preordered, thought I was one of the first, my order still says not yet shipped (not shipping soon) expected delivery 1 Oct - 5 Oct.

We won't know until we start to see them ship out. The reason they changed estimated ship time is they have sold all their expected amount and they have an estimated time for the next shipment.

What I've picked up from the many Amazon thread and talking to them directly about my order:

1. There is an amount of 40Ds that is supposed to ship today
2. That amount of inventory is a fixed amount so some will get them and some will be back ordered
3. Overnight deliveries should ship by 11:00 am w/tracking

Until people start getting shipping confirmations it's all a guess.

If Amazon is getting their shipment today it's a good guess that the other big box stores will be getting their allotment as well (usually a small allotment)

I will bet that "X" go out nation wide today and then BACKORDER for 30ish days.

I am going to see if this happens and if it does mine will be on eBay withing 24hrs.

Don't forget that Amazon sells for a number of retailers. That's why you will see variability in the stock amount from day to day, as those other shops receive inventory. Notice the line in Skippy's post:

"Availability: In Stock. Ships from and sold by DBROTH."

Couple of DSLRs, number of lenses and other stuff... plenty short on talent.

I, too, cancelled my Amazon order an hour ago and bought the camera from Berger Brothers in NY (see post "40D available in NYC today"). They had the camera in-stock when I called them as of about 3pm EDT. Will ship out today or tomorrow.

Tempted, but know nothing about them and there are so many rip-off companies out there. When someone gets theirs in from this outfit, let us know how it went.

They've been changing the "availability" all day.. back and forth. My confirmation said shipping today, here tomorrow, but their CS rep said there is no camera coming anytime soon and they didn't know when they (Amazon LLC) would get any more in. Hoping to have better luck elsewhere.
