LOL, listen to Lord Malone, he speaketh the truth.

I've got 2, just got the 5D, I will say, the 30D took a backseat right away. Will be nice to have two at events, looking forward to (not) switching lenses constantly.

First off, if my wife ever told me to buy any piece of camera equipment I'd be all over it like white on rice. Take advantage of her suggestion. 'Nuff said.

BTW, damn skippy it's worth it to have more than one body. Amateur or otherwise.

I am not close to being a pro, but I figure if I upgrade to a 40D or even a 5D Mk II or whatever that one will be, I should just keep the old body. Maybe even make a second kit with the 20D and a lens just for keeping handy.

Today, I went to the local Zoo and ended up changing lens over 20 times, a 70-200 for outside shooting and either the 17-85 or the 100mm for indoors.
My wife suggested that I get a second body in order to minimize the amount of times I change lens. She went as far as suggesting that I pickup a 40D that I have been talking about (I was planning on selling the Xti, not keeping it).
Being an amateur, it almost seems to be a waste to have two SLR bodies. How many amateurs out there have more then one body?

thanks

I have the 5D and 1D markII. Nice, complementary bodies providing the benefits of full frame, 1D action catching. One day, the 1Ds Mark III might supplant them both. :)

I use two bodies for sports - and am planning to replace the 30D with a 1DmkII over the winter to reduce lens changes and still retain decent AF performance (the 30D struggles in the applications I currently try to apply it to).

Didn't realise we were including old stuff, so that would be a three then. Back in the day tho' I had an F1N, two A-1s, a T90, a Bronica ETRS and an Olympus mju. Wife got the lot. That's why I won't buy another one of those. ;)

I currently only have one body, a 20D, but for a while I had that and an XT. I only shot with them both at an airshow and really loved the versatility. I put the wide angle on the Xt and the telephoto on the 20D. I shot most of the time with the 20D and had the XT slung over my shoulder and neck so it stayed mostly against my back, out of the way. I found it pretty easy to swap them when needed. If I were an event shooter, ie. weddings, I would definately do this.

I plan to eventually get the 40D and will probably keep the 20D until I can afford a 5D. So eventually I'd like to always have a 5D with a 16-35 and a 40D with a longer prime or telephoto zoom on it.

First I would like to thank you all for answering the survey.
I have to say that I am very surprised by the % of amateurs that have two or more SLR bodies. I was expecting that number to be under 20% (not feeling as guilty about spending the money on a new body). I got my first camera in February of this year and since then the wife and I have been to many places in search of great photographic opportunities. Even though I am the one doing the photo shooting, the wife is also enjoying my new hobby. Turned out to be a family thing...

I shoot as a pro now but have had two bodies for a while. Dual 30D's. One hangs off my shoulder with a 70-200 permanently affixed. The other goes around my neck with a 17-55 or other shortish lens on it. Great combo.

I have 2 DSLRs and 3 35mm bodies.
30D
350D
Rebel 2000
Nikon N90s
Olympus OM10

I'm starting usually carry the 30D with my primary lens and my 350D with the secondary. It totally depends on what I'm shooting. The Rebel is simply back up if I'm doing a shoot and I have total failure. The Nikon was my old camera for school and will be going on ebay soon. The olympus was my first SLR and it still takes fantastic pictures, so it's more a keepsake than anything.

5D and 20D. Like the lens double duty with FF and 1.6X crop. 5D is primarily landscape and portrait. 20D for long lens and macro.
