hi all. i have a 10D, but it doesn't focus well in low light and the continuous shot is slow and the camera takes ages to save the pics on the CF card.

should i get a 20D, 30D or Rebel XTI?

i like taking low light, indoor, night shots of people predominantly. but i also want to start taking more urban shots and travel shots of people when i'm on holidays.

in terms of lenses i have a nifty, sigma 17-70 and sigma 55-200.

If better autofocus and faster continuous shooting are your main priorities, I would keep shooting the 10D for another 6-12 months and then get a 40D when the price comes down a bit and other people have found any bugs for Canon to correct.

I am using a 20D with a D60 for back up and that is what I am doing.

would you say the 20D has lower noise than the 10D at higher isos?

XTi is a very capable camera. It's low light capabilities are comparable to the 20/30D. Use the savings to build up a lens collection.

what additional lenses should i get then eori? i was thinking a wide angle sigma would be good. would you recommend a tamron lens? never used one of those before and i don't see much good feedback on that.

Can't really comment on third-party lenses, as I've never tried one, although you'll find many favorable reviews on this Board and elsewhere.

Lens selection is a purely personal matter. It's determined by the type of photography that you do. Your 17-70 should cover most of your general needs, while the nifty fifty can serve as your portrait lens, and to a limited extent (because it's a short tele on the XT) as a low-light lens.

Your idea about adding a fast wide angle lens for low-light indoor work makes sense; either a Canon 28 f/1.8 or Sigma 30 f/1.4. If you do a lot of telephoto work, an upgrade from your Sigma to something like the Canon 70~300IS would make for a significant improvement in image quality, and give you the additional reach.

With the 40D out, the 30D is a great bargain.
The leap from 10D to 30D would still be a pretty big one.
You can find nice used ones for $800-$850, which is about a $400-$500 savings over the 40D.

A husband never finishes a fight with his wife. The wife does!
