Anyone that has any input on this lens (EF 28-300 L IS USM)? Purpose is sports shootings indoors (mostly) on large arenas w/o flash (with a 10D). Thanks in advance.

and upwards to f/5.6 at the long end.

Though I do not have frst hand experience with this lens... I can tell you that for indoor sports I would never use anything slower than f/2.8...

Maybe take a look at the Sigma 120-300/2.8 instead...

Maybe invest a bit more money and get a DRebel as backup to mount on your 24-70.

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks guys. Never trusted anything but Canon glasses though. Perhaps I should reconsider?
What if I hook up a 2 or 3x extender on my 70-200 mm /f2.8 L. Waste of money? Never used an extender before but know there can be problems with the AF in some combinations.

2 or 3x extender on my 70-200 mm /f2.8 L

This will have the effect of reducing the f2.8 to f5.6 anyway.

The 70-200 f/2.8 will AF with a 2x TC, but not with a 3x on your 10D. Feel free to upgrade to a 1D Mk II to retain AF with a 3x. But expect a noticeable loss of image quality with either 2x or 3x TC. There's a reason Canon doesn't make 3x ones.

 Not often someone says "less $$" when talking about the 120-300mm

I'll second (third?) the recommendation for the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 EX though. It's an awesome lens and genuinely good at f/2.8.
