Mike,

Here is my honest opinion, since you asked:

1. The runner is OOF and is not facing the camera. You want the face of the ball carrier. The player behind the runner is actually sharper.

2. Again, the runner is soft (and again, the player in back is sharper), and he is looking down (but the player in the background is looking at the lens). In a runner isolation shot like this, it's better to shoot tighter or crop tighter, but this shot isn't sharp enough to survive a crop.

3. Better capture. Good action. Again, the runner is looking down (yes, you can wait until the runner looks your way to snap shots). Also, the horizon is tilted and the shot could be tighter (if it were sharper).

4. Good stock runner shot, but way too loose. Also, work on brightening up under the helmet (selective curves adjustment with the lasso in PS). At 1/1600s f/8.0 ISO400 131mm - makes me wonder why you were shooting at f/8.0 ? Too much of the background is in focus (from being stopped down to f/8.0), and why at 131mm? Which lens were you using?

5. Shots or players' back are almost never keepers. On the plus side, the runner is in focus on this shot, though it is shot at f/8.0 again.

6. I like the facial expression, and he's in focus, but I'd have preferred to have the next shot in the burst with the player not obscured by the defender, and have him closer to the center of the frame.

Hope this bout of constructive criticism helps.

Dennis
