yeah ...a buddy got one though a divorce and just gave it to me when i helped him move. how good is this camera? ive already got a small sd1000- i returned an IS3 to get it - the IS3 just was too big to be a day in a day out, take with me ,camera . but now that ive got both of these im pretty psyched. so the question remains...is the g6 as good as i think it might be? i know it shoots RAW..not sure if i will though.

You are very lucky! If you have one that is working well, you have a great camera. The g7 and G9 (the successors) are great cameras, particularly the G9, but the G6 is still a very respectable camera with some advantages of its own such as the faster lens, swivel screen, RAW capability (vs. the G7).

Its a terrible camera, You won't like it. You should send it to me immediately. :p

Seriously, the G6 is outstanding. It can be a little quirky, but overall andoutstanding camera. No really, I'm serious.

You got lucky but your friend got even luckier. Usually the man does not end up with anything after a divorce.

sorry to rehash an old thread...been thinking of upgrading to a g+...a buddy might buy my g6...would the upgrade be worth it ? i like the size of the g9 as compared to the g6, but is the camera itself worth me having to put some of my own money into getting it. to be honest, the only things about the g6 that ' kinda ' bug me is the size, which really isnt not that bad and the shutter lag when i try to bracket for HDR stuff..

any opinions either way?

well...to be completely honest, im just not that good yet, lol...im still a beginner and i like to have the camera on me, or in the car next to me ' just in case.' the g9 seemed to me to be the closest thing to a dlsr without being a dslr. i have thought about a dslr but i dont know if the money would be well spent. now that being said, my knock around camera is an sd1000 so maybe i dslr would be worth buying to learn on?

I went from my G5 that I still have to a 20D and I love it! The G series are good cameras and can capture some pretty good pictures but for me it was time to upgrade and I don't regret it at all!
I got the body used so that helped offset some costs?!?

I completely understand about just having a camera there for a quick snap, and the G's work good for that.

My experience is exactly a U turn. I'm a DSLR guy that wants something lighter than my 10D with grip, 2 BP 511's and that heavy weight champ, the 24/70 f 2.8L. The G9 looks great for what I'm looking for (RAW, black body, hot shoe, 3 in. LCD, metal construction), and is still a point and shoot. I mean, Ihave the 10D for work, so when I wanna have some snap shots around, I hate to move that monster, but at the same time, I don't wanna lose the control posibilities it gives. And for some kind of assingments, I can use the G9 for work!!!!
