I've nearly pulled the trigger on getting this lens probably 10 times. It's in my "cart" on several websites. A good friend of mine has one and he let me shoot with it on my 350D for an afternoon. Sure, it ain't L quality, but unless you are seriously pixel-peeping, I think 90% or more of the regular folks out there would never know the difference.

I know I'll get one at some point, probably soon. What a great travel lens it would make if one could only take one body and two lenses? Moreover, as a lightweight, walking-around lens, I think it would be hard to beat if one wanted IS.

Heck, I may just go order the darn thing right now... uh.., maybe later... :D

I found this lens doesnt perform as good on the 350D, I found the focus even on bright days at 300mm was never really spot on, where as on the 5D its so much better, the body used makes a big difference, on the 350D I would say its no better than a consumer lens, on the 5D I would say its L quality!

Just tried the 70-300 f/4-5.6 out today on my EOS400D. Very cloudy dull day, but lens performed really nicely. It's a bit clunky but I was really surprised and it stops down to f/32 on the 400D. If you are getting soft images, consider your shutter speed. Auto focus is very good but manual is nice if you get the hang of it going in reverse to other lenses! Excellent value though for the money, and produces sharp images the further you stop it down. There is also very little chromatic abberation at 300mm, hardly noticeable on mine. I just wonder about the DO version, is it worth double the price?

Some say it isnt worth the extra, although it is much smaller which would be nice.

pat - I was traveling on a Macau-to-HK jetfoil, and the one in the picture is going at the opposite direction towards Macau. So, about 100MPH speed differential between us, and through the windows.
