My nephew was out of school today and popped by the office. A willing model to do some test lighting shots . The pics were taken inside my warehouse.

Lighting
Elinchrom 43" Octalite camera left
Elinchrom w/grid camera right pointed back (right) of his head
580EX gelled behind and pointed at wall

First one is great. Love the lighting setup. In both though, the face is a little dark. Especially the second one.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Alpha.

I was playing around with a new grid and used it as a hairlight. In retrospect, and if I wasn't too lazy to pull out another light :), I would've filled on the right side a bit.

I like the shadows created on one side of his face. its just that the part under the brim doesnt POP out to me. The eyes and cheeks, if they had that glow like in the first one it would be perfect.

Yes, I see what you mean Alpha. Adjusted highlights a bit and came up with this

#1 is good, one thing that bugs me tho is his hand is chopped off down in the bottom left corner while you still had plenty of empty space overhead. Other than that I love the lighting and pose and such in #1.
#2 is a bit too dark but nothing a little levels can't fix. ;)

My gear list finally got too long to list under my sig.
"All of us have photographic memory, some of us just don't have film."
"I hate cameras. They are so much more sure than I am about everything."
