Mommies have the beautiful visions.... Sweet photos of their children at the pumpking patch... indivudual shots, together shots, all kinds of stuff..

When in reality... The lighting is bad, our skills need help, and the children.... that's an entire story in itself.... So here are a couple snapshots of our
pumpkin patch adventure... and Daddy.... oh... he needs help too.. someone give him lessons on how to assist the mommy photographer, and do it sucessfully... Mr. roll eyes.... Uggghhhh....

Smiles, perfection, and breathless beauty... NOT... but I still love the journaling of the day.. and maybe there's at least one keeper on the card.

Hope your visit goes much more smoothly then ours... :) CC welcome as always.., but I know these images are not going to make the next POTN book submission.... LOL.

Happy Day! :)

edit to add... I've been practicing fill flash... so feel welcome to comment on how I'm doing... I'm trying to live up to the "Solinger" standard. :)

She was mad because she wanted to be "the leader"and her sister had run ahead to go "pick a pumpkin". So she stopped dead in her tracks and took the pose.... Of course I had to snap it.

Did I say it was a fun time...? LOL!

Sorry the trip didn't go as you planned it, they are still nice photos anyway. Oh and don't forget, you can always go a second time around!

There is still 6 more days until Halloween, Kristy, LOL. Personally, I like the more candid moments. Your pouty daughter is adorbale.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

LOL looks like your day was as bad as mine. I haven't posted mine yet...don't have time to do the little PP it needs. LOL
Emmy was throwing tantrums since hte boys in her class was screaming, not at her, just being boys and she's overly sensitive and starts bawling. Of course we were out in the midst of Josh's naptime so by the time the time at the pumpkin patch was ending, Josh was having a serious melt down and threw himself on the gravel. *sigh*
I think I caught a few cute ones but nothing spectacular either....I'm so not cut out for outdoor photography and trying to make it look good. *sigh*

Love her face in the second! LOL

I know how you feel, Kristy! (here)

Of course we made it there at the perfect time with the perfect light and I still got next to nothing. Toddlers and their running around, grr.

Love her expression in the 2nd shot. Poor thing, didn't get to go first :)

Might've cranked the FEC down a little for the fill on that one but it still looks really good!

It was a fun time... :) Just not on the photography end of life... Oh well... I'd go a second time around if I could find a decent "assistant"... LOL! :) My current one is failing miserably in his job... shhhh... don't tell him I said so.

Yikes!! Don't know about making a second return... although it it tempting! I did get a handful of cute candid moments.. but I wanted the "magical" shot.. just one.. and I didn't come home with it.. Darn!

I do like Alyssa's pouty face though.... :) Where ya been? I haven't seen you around lately... maybe just haven't crossed paths... :)

Sounds like we should hang out together more often... LOL! Sometimes I feel like a failure... all the chasing around and changing the camera settings and it turns into a big blur of "what did i do".. and hopefully I didn't screw up my settings... Auuughhh.

I'll keep my eyes open for yours.. sounds like you had more fun than I did. :)

Your image is so funny! I missed it the first time around I guess... :)
Yeah.. on the FEC... I totally suck at flash. I dial it all around, and there is no rhyme or reason.. Just guessing. Blah! I've had worse though, so I'm getting better at it. I really love natural light the best.

Thanks for all the comments.. and for sharing your stories of the Pumpkin Patch gone bad.... misery loves company and it's nice to know I'm not the only one having problems... Sorry.. that's not nice is it... LOL! :)

Pumpkin patch! It looks like your girls have no interest in pumpkins. Nice shots. How have you been.

Hey Ryan... it was at Tolomachoff Farms in Glendale (however you spell it).

I like it there because it's a real working farm, small, and not overly commercial.. although they are starting to go that direction.

Off Topic... I went to a cool location the other night for a kids session.. totally a blow out as the 3 year old wouldn't even look at me... ugggh.. I'm afraid to look at my memory card.

Anyway, next time you are out and about in Phoenix, check out Saugaro Ranch Historical Park... cool place.

Michael!! :) HI! Long time since I've talked to you.. how the heck are you? We never hooked up to shoot the kids at Westgate... we'll have to do that after the holidays when it's nice and cool... :) Or you can meet us at that park I mentioned above.. it's really a neat spot.

So.. the girls actually LOVED the pumpkin part.. it was jus the photography part that threw them off.. I screwed up my exposures on lots of them.. was playing with the fill flash, and either too little or too much on most of them.. so lots of grainy shadows, and crappy fill... OH well.. learning I suppose.

Happy Day!

Ya know I just set mine to auto with my 50mm and had at it...I didn't even decide to mess with settings since I was afraid it would be messed up when i didn't take the time to do it right. I tried to just capture a few moments of the kids hanging out in the patch and that was it.
LOL My post will probably be a big various pix thing...man we've got so much going on I'm gonna need a weeks vacation from all this partying at school, home and with friends.

ETA: Love the new avatar!!!

You are so brave... using auto... Ouch! I'm too much of a control freak to let the camera make a decision for me... Of course I might have done well to follow your lead... ;)

The avatar... Thanks! yeah.... All you girls with your new self-portraits... thought I better step up and join you. I had a couple different ones, and couldn't decide... maybe I'll change it out in a couple weeks...
