Got a crazy deal on a messenger bag. Any cheap camera inserts?

Steve & Barry's is having a 40-50% off sale right now, and I snagged a great messenger bag for $8. It has a large main compartment with separate area for a laptop that's big enough for my 15.4" widescreen. It also has a pocket in the flap and various other places to stow stuff.

Now I just need some inserts to put in it for my camera gear. I remember someone posting somewhat recently about how they contacted some camera bag company and got just their inserts for a good price. I just don't wanna pay $20+ for one insert. Any ideas?

^o0o0o0 no way! Finally someone. It's the black one right? I just converted mine, I'll get pics up. I love S&B! I got mine when it was 30%.

The insert you'd buy would be nice to fit the whole thing, not just part like if you got a Domke. It's be a Naneu Pro insert. Anyhow, do you have any other bags?

Ok, here's what I did. I bought some Velcro strips and put 2 on the inside going long ways on both sides, one high and one low. I did the same on the side of the bag. I used Inserts from a previous bag and a bag I got from a yard sale for $1. Lots on inserts in it. I was going to make my own from Styrofoam, which I see no reason it wouldn't work, if you don't mind sewing some covers for them.

Aniwho, here's Pics! I love this bag and it's my daily bag now. As you can see it has a lot of pockets. I have the normal things listed in my other bag reviews in here. The empty space with only the hood is to show where my 70-200 goes when gets back from being repaired.

Lenspens, pens, wireless remote, AA and CR2 batteries memory cards, hurricane blower all fit in these pockets. Filter wallet is in slot in front of the main compartment.

This little area is where you can expand the bag, by unzipping all the way around the bottom gets bigger. I use it for spare batteries.

The slot back there is for my laptop which can fit. I use it though for flat items like my tripod/monopod plates and the twin caps.

Nice job! How did you attach the velcro on the inside of the bag?

Get the kind that has adhesive on one side. I got 5ft for $10. So this bag has cost me $18 and it holds up real well. I've had it for almost 4yrs now. Used it for school for a longg while carrying books and laptop so I know it can carry the weight. Also holds up to rain real well.

You could also buy the Domke inserts and use those. I know others have done so with success.

That's what I was going to do but it's too expensive. $50 just to get a setup that'll work. Might as well get another bag.

I'm not creative and I tend to pay for it as a result. :D

Well, I was going to, but then I was informed the inserts have no bottom. So I was directed to Domke's bottoms, which are $10 plus 2 inserts (the double ones) would have been $40+ and as you can see, I'm using 5 slots so...still might not have pleased me. I at least wanted to try this first before I did the other and I'm quite pleased. I'm still pondering on spending $20 on a Naneu Pro insert and still use the bottom I have. Although I think they come with bottoms.

For a bottom, I picked up a closed-cell sleeping pad at a camping store; now I'm set for decades of bag bases (as well as for making custom divider inserts for Pelican cases). Since I already have oodles of Domke inserts, I'm good.

I know you mention you don't want expensive inserts, but I like the Domke. Here's my homemade bag:
