I found a local Craigslist for a used 20D body with a Quantaray 28-90mm 1:3.5-5.6 Macro lens and a Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 for $850. I'm looking to buy the body only since I'm on a small budget. The Quantaray lens is worth about $99 according to Amazon, and the Canon Zoom Lens is worth about $400. I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right Canon Lens though. He said the Canon Lens is an ultrasonic lens; I have no idea what that means.

How much should I offer for the body only? Is the included Canon lens any good for a first time shooter? All help will be appreciated, thanks!

edit:
I'll definitely get the nifty fifty lens to shoot and practice with.

I'd offer about $400 for body only if in excellent condition.

Canon's 75-300 USM is $179 new from some reputable vendors. The non-USM version is even cheaper.

You may be thinking about the 70-300 IS, which is about $550.

With my budget, I can only afford a Rebel XTi. According to most people on here, the 20D is a better camera.

Agreed. Skip the lenses. Get the camera if in very good condition but do some research and do not overpay on that. The 20D is a great camera. You need good glass to get the most out of it.

it is a better camera, but be carefull not to buy something that has been beat on. I would only buy the body if it was me. Those lenses are junk

Does everyone agree that $400 would be a good price to offer if the camera is in excellent condition?

Asking price for body + 2 lenses - $850
Quantaray - $100
Canon - $180

That's about $570 for the body only. I wonder if $400 will be low-balling him.

I highly doubt he will sell it for 400 bucks, but if you get it then its a great deal if its in good shape.

there are many people selling the 20D for 500 bucks so dont be surprised if he does not go down any further.

Yeah, that's true. According to the seller, the camera is 2 years old and is in excellent condition. The only wear is on the flash mount. I'll offer him $450 and see where it goes from there. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I sold my 20D with the Canon 18-55 it came with for $550, so I'd say that $500 for the body alone is probably a decent offer.

If you look on this fourm you will find great 20D's for aroud $500-$550. I did see one go a few weeks back for $415, but that kind of deal is rare. I would say that for a clean 20D body anyting less than $525 is a good deal. Keep in mind that for about $200-$250 more you can get a 30D. Most 30D bodys are around $700 these days. All thanks to the 40D. Just a few months ago 30D's were still in the $900 range and 20D's in the $700, once the 40D came out everyone wanted to sell there 20's and 30's to get the 40. So Get yourself a 20D you may want to buy it here if the other guy woun't go below $550.
If you are real straped for cash I would say get a 10D from some one on this forum, I got two of them at $300 each. Both are great cameras, I use one as my back up to my 30D and the other the wife uses when she is assisting me. The 10D will help you learn the camera then at some time down the road you can upgrade the body. Just my 0.02cents

Here is a 30D for $675

And a 20D body for $500

Good Luck,

You may not, jr, but plenty are in the 'Sell' forum. I'd buy here before ebay or craigslist. I have more confidence in the members of this forum. Judge each seller individually, as always.
