Well my wife's work friend (Maternity Shots Here (external link)) finally made it over to get some images of her little boy. He's three months old now and was not having a good day. She said that he is normally happy and expressive but all he wanted to do is give blank stares and fuss/cry. We worked at it for a couple hours (with breaks) and we ended up deciding to reschedule because of his unhappiness.

Anyways, here are a few images that I saved from the trash bin...

What do you think, should they be trashed after all?

I see plenty of expression in 1 and 5; although the expression in 1 may be a bit odd ;)

I feel like the bkg in # one is a little too bright and distracting on the left side...easy fix

I love #5, I would save that for a final print definitely.

Posing these little ones can be a problem but I really like the shots with Mom...nicely done. While the others look to be technically well done they just don't strike me as the 'cute' baby shots folks like to see.

I like #1 and #5. He's got a lot to think about! You can just see those wheels turning. Don't trash them.

I really need to get a monitor calibration unit...it probably is a bit hot. Thanks for the feedback!

The mother said that he was very out-of-character this day, he is usually a pretty happy little boy. We are going to try again soon. Thanks for the compliments!

I really wish I could see mom's left eye #4 but these (#3-5) were during the last couple mins of the shoot when were just trying to get anything of quality. He was crying at this point...

I like #3, 4 and 5.
In #3 and 4, I like the mom and child interaction and I"m sure she'd like them.
#5 I love the over the shoulder look, a tad bright but still cute.
The first two the sullen look just don't work esp if they're gonna want to print them bigger, KWIM? I hope he's happier next time.

Yeah, hopefully he is in a better mood for the re-shoot. We are going to do it at their home so that should help. Thanks for the feedback! :)

i've shot babies and i dont find them that hard to shoot, sometimes it is luck of the draw but most of times u can get them to smile, u as a photographer/assistant/parent should know how to make babies smile. Easy does it!

They're technically good, but I think the lack of a smile or any sort of engagement from the youngster does spoil them a bit.
