Sfera Con Sfera

This example can be found in the Belvedere Courtyard, Vatican City (museum).
The bronze sculpture pictured is known as 'Sfera con Sfera', Sphere within a Sphere. While I was there, the tourguide explained that the sculpturer Arnaldo Pomodoro, had invisaged a world within a world. The new age vs the old age.
The outer shell of this sphere represents the current world we reside in, damaged, and broken. The inner sphere represents the world of the future.
However! Notice that the inner sphere is also broken and damaged. Arnaldo is said to believe that if we continue as we are, the future will be no better than it is right now.

This is a functioning, rotating sculpture. While I was there, I set the sphere's in motion. It is almost friction free (95%) and continued to turn for the 20 minutes that I spent there.

:)

Good Morning...ahhh nice to see EVERYONE! good!

Happy turkey day, my boys are leavign shortly to go play in a "turkey" bowl...they have done this for years...a group of guys, meet another group of guys from another town and play some football. They play in the mudd, rain or snowstorm, but, they have a blast.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I'll be in and out for the next few ours, I'm cooking a few things to take to my daughters

Niraj, great image of the day, thank you!

Morning, everyone. Turkey day finally. I just got back from a three mile run so I'll allow myself to eat a little. Gotta watch the weight.

Enjoy, everybody.

Petey:

What's with the sudden interest in the wedding chat? Are you considering a career change? Maybe you're getting married yourself? Or is it all the lovely ladies who hang out here (MDJAK notwithstanding)?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
